Mobo Question P5Q or P5B Deluxe ?!

Thread Starter
hello everyone.. ive got an mb (p5b deluxe http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a211170.html ) from a mate and i am wondering if it fits better for my q9300 than the p5q ( http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a338309.html ) that i am using..
p5b got sli but i was wondering if the other one is better for OCing..
thank you

P5Q (P45 chipst) is a much better board for OCing than P5B (P965 chipset)..

But P5Q is limited to 450MHz FSB with a C2Q CPU(Prime95 LARGE FFT stable)..

If you run Prime95 LARGE FFT test on your 3,6GHz OC (481 x 7.5) you`ll get errors on workers (cores)..

6h stable in P95 LARGE FFT test is a minimum for calling your OC stable..

With C2Duo it can pull way over 500MHz FSB..

CHEERS..

Yeah as KingT said - you want a P45 chipset to push high FSB with that quad smile.gif

It is a toss. P5B Deluxe is P965 chipset board with 8-Phase Power Design and better cooling (see the heat pipe there) so it has better OC especially for quad-chip but P5Q is a more mature P45 chipset board with higher fsb so I would go for P45 board in this case. Your q9300 has 7.5x multi so go for higher fsb board.

P5Q has also 8phase Power Design and newer mosfets that run coler so that heatpipe is unnecessary..

My P5Q Pro doesn`t even have one cooler for mosfet (it`s like that by default) and still runs like a champ for over 2 years..

P45 vs P965 is a no brainer = P45 FTW..

CHEERS..

i already had 3.6ghz with p5q and aircooling totally linx and primestable, even with large ffts. i had luck with that chip. i think it should be possible to get it at least to 3.3.. i will try one day cuz i got an e6600(2.4) on 3ghz with a h50. ill just switch the chips and try how far i can get it..

What settings have ou used for 521MHz FSB on that P5Q with Q9300..

My P5Q Pro tops out @ 506MHz FSB even wit 6x multiplier and 1.5V (check my sig)..

Tried everything (vNB up to 1,58V) but it would POST and then get stuck on Win7 load screen..

CHEERS..
