Step up came crazy fast.

Thread Starter
I did my step up a little while ago. Just checked last week and I was like #225 waiting for a 570.

Today I got the email its ready to go. But damn I don't have the money as I just bought a new cpu and board. I honestly don't game a ton but wanted this more for it to last me for a good while as the 570 is a lot of video card for my needs.

I game at 1080p. Should I just stick with the 470 or pay the $115. I know its my decision I'm just looking for some thoughts from other people.

Well, like you said it's your decision. The 570 is a upgrade but not a huge upgrade so It all depends if you have the extra cash for it without going without food for a week or 2

Thats the thing I remember there was a comparison thread and I think it was only like 10% or something. Probably not really worth it.

tough call. I wouldn't go out and just upgrade to a 570 from a 470 but considering you are eligible for the step up I would consider it. I guess I would ask myself how much did I pay for my 470. If you end up quite a bit over the cost of the 570 prolly not worth it really. But if it is in the neighborhood I think I would get it just because it won't be long before you don't have the chance to.

Also have to consider now that the 570 is out the 470 will probably be phased out of production. Leaving you stuck if you ever plan to sli. Either that or you buy used.

As far as pure horsepower increase it is not an omg step up. At least not from what I have read. It was for me as I went from a 250 and an 8800. So really you just need to decide is having the newest thing and some more hp in your card worth the 150 bucks total to you? Looking at the prices now for a 470 I see them in the 260 range so 150 on top you are really spending another 50 dollars over the cost of the card and that is the right now prices. Of course it is 200 cheaper than buying a new one outright.

Gl with your decision it is kind of a tough one but I think if I had the money I would go for it.

Well I pay the difference between what I payed and the current price of the 570. I payed $249 for my 470, and the 570 is $349 from evga right now. So I pony up the 100 plus shipping.

Its a cool deal but like you said its not a huge upgrade. Idk what to do. Prob just gonna let it go.

I say you keep the money.

You have a decent Sandy Bridge set up, very decent.

And a 10% increase isn't worth the $115.

Save up and use those $115 down the line in the next generation.

There will be plenty of 470s in the used market if you ever decide to go SLI. I don't think the 570 is a worthwhile upgrade over the 470 at 1920x1080. In the same position I would let it go. The only way I would do it is if the step up cost was ~$50.

I'm in the same boat! 570 step up came out of the blue today... I'm also on the fence for about 100$, only difference being 19x12
