Use computer from one room on a TV in another?

Hello everyone

I've done a bit of research on this but so far its not looking positive.

I'm looking for a way to have my computer in my bedroom while been able to use it on a HD TV in another room.

So far its looking like my only option is to have a mouse, keyboard and the TV hooked up with really long cables. Maybe extensions or something. I've looked at wireless options but I dont think they can send and receive a signal as far as I am wanting. Not sure how far yet. Maybe 20ft. Could be less could more!?

Im moving into a house with a couple of friends and dont really want my PC (which I've spent alot of money on) in the living room where on a friday night everyone ends up back at ours. Beer and exspensive computers dont mix well.

Any suggestions would be great.

Here is a 30 foot HDMI cable for cheap.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&q=30+foot+HDMI&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=3247928982311353320&ei=2-YsTfLnFJC4sAP7k8iOBw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCMQ8wIwAA#ps-sellers

I'm not sure how well HDMI works at those distances though. I have heard mixed reports. Some people say it will not work but I also read an article on a Home Theatre website by a HT expert who had a very long HDMI cable running through his wall allowing him to play blue rays from downstairs in his upstairs bedroom.

EDIT. As for the mouse and keyboard, what if you used a wireless USB receiver? You could use a long USB cable to get the receiver at least into the same room as the keyboard and mouse but still have the keyboard and mouse be wireless.

sell your pc and replace it with a notebook or ipad/asus-tablet pc.

or wireless router + ddwrt firmware + your current pc + ps3 or xbox360 + ps3 media server software

for playing videos and stuff? is that what you want to do?

I think your onto something there.

Now I know 30ft HDMI cables exist I'll start hunting for one. I would get the one you just linked to but I'm in the UK. At $14 I would have bought that just to see if it worked.

Hopefully that should be display sorted.

I have a cheap wireless keyboard and mouse in front of me. Now all I need is a 30ft usb exstension cable and I'm sorted.

No No No. I love my computer. Its a beast!

I have an xbox already and that will do for streaming media.

I just wanted to be able to use all the functions of my computer in another room.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

P.S. Your sandy bridge builds sounds like its going to be a monster.
