Hey guys,

I am looking to put some updates into my system again and just wondering what you guys think would be the best upgrades I could put into it. I have already upgraded the SSD to a Samsung 840 Pro 256gb but I need some input on what to put in next!

Whether this would be a 690 or a faster CPU or maybe even more RAM?

You guys were always extremely helpful with my last build so I figured I would come back for some more input smile.gif

So your system specs are: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
i7 2600K
Asus P67 Pro
GTX 580
8GB GSkill 1600 C7
840 pro 256GB
LG Blueray Burner
24" Asus VW246H
Corsair 850W Gold
HAF932 case
?

First: what are you using it for
Second: how long are you willing to wait (Haswell will be out soon)

GTX 780 comes to mind if you want to swap up to a 2560x1440 120Hz monitor (for gaming) ... $650 though

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_780/26.html

To see gains over a GTX 580 you need to go GTX 660 Ti at a minimum (AMD side: Radeon HD 7870XT or HD7950)

2560x1440 monitor if you are using it for productivity/editing video/images

Hey,

I am a web developer for a major US company. I do a lot of video rendering via Sony Vegas and Photoshop/Dreamweaver. I would definitely like a better monitor (maybe even a 3 setup like a trapezoid) I am more than willing to upgrade my GPU and Monitor if that's what you think is best.

I assume I would also want more memory if I upgrade this as well?

What GPU and Monitor setup would you suggest?

Let me know!

If you're video rendering then memory would help, that's like $60 for 8GB wink.gif

If you're using Vegas (and not Adobe Premiere / After Effects) you're not locked to NVIDIA because Vegas has AMD support for GPU acceleration

HD 7950 boost might be a good bet if you don't need 10 bit color, along with a $550ish Dell U2713HM. Otherwise you probably want a Quadro K4000 or Firepro W7000 (50% off: http://www.fireprographics.com/experience/us/).

Cheapest 2560x1440 is around $400 , Monoprice http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=113&cp_id=11307&cs_id=1130703&p_id=10489&seq=1&format=2
Other $350-400ish option is Korean monitors like this one from Microcenter http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27-Inch_IPS_LED_Monitor,_WQHD_2560x1440,_HDMI,_DVI-D,_DisplayPort,_USB

For monitor if you want 10 bit color (you need Quadro/Firepro for that by the way) it will be pricier, something like Asus PB278Q or Dell U2713H.

GeForce GPUs: GeForce GTX 4xx Series or higher (or GeForce GT 2xx Series or higher with driver 285.62 or later).

Quadro GPUs: Quadro 600 or higher (or Quadro FX 1700 or higher with driver 285.62 or later).

NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA Quadro for professional applications and recommends use of the latest boards based on the Fermi architecture.

AMD/ATI

Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU. If using a FirePro GPU, FirePro unified driver 8.85 or later is required.
