Other than those words of gratitude, this post will be mostly images only.

Mounted on the Motherboard tray thingy I made.

Up next: GPU and the start of something wonderful.... I hope.

You are very welcome Now get back to finishing that monster of a build!

Been creeping through the log pretty much since it got started. I must say it looks great, as did all your other builds.

Knowing that an optical drive can fit in the place you put it, same with the HDD, it gives me some really neat ideas for the custom case I've been planning for a while now. Thanks. As always, keep up the good work.

Heyah, Boyd.

Yes, Sir. The cooler comes with a 120mm and a 140mm fan.

This cooler is really quiet.

I don't recall any other air-cooler that was this subtle in sound (although not so subtle in physical presence).

I had also looked at the Noctua and decided against if for that same reason. Would it have been possible to mount your Noctua turned 90 degrees and clear the RAM? Either way, it looks like you found an acceptable solution.

And is that Akasa drive mount slick or what? I knew the SSD would be small but when I pulled it out I was sure surprised.
Yar! The Akasa is really very schmexah! I love it.

It was funny... when I got the box for the SSD I was all, "Oh! Nice! ...the clowns sent me an empty box".
Then I opened the box and was all, "Oh great! They sent me a matchbox... where the tarnation is the SSD?!?! ... then I realised that the "matchbox was the SSD. /

So small, and so effective in it's task.

Thanks, IzninjaFTW.

Using a box seemed such an injustice that I had to do something to provide a more suitable platform for initial setup.

Yes, Sir!

....and it is done.

Hahahahah... the OS and Drivers installed faster than the upload of the images I am about to post.

So fast!

Thanks, Nhb93.

I am happy to hear that you were able to get something positive from my ghetto-shenanigans.

More pics momentarily.

GPU: EVGA GTX580

Ghetto PCI support... blue painters tape. heh...

Mouse: Cyborg R.A.T. 7

Note: The ergonomics of this mouse are excellent (for me). I really like that my pinky and 4th finger have a rest so they don't drag on the mousing surface.... I chaff easily. (j/k)... but I do like the finger rests on both sides.

Keyboard: Razer Black Widow Ultimate

Note: Still unsure about this peripheral.... time will tell.

PSU: Silverstone DA750W

Note: I already had this PSU, it has served me faithfully for a couple of years now.

Almost ready to update firmware, install OS and Drivers:

Firmware updated (took about .5 seconds ), and configuring the BIOS for initial use:

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit Pro

So... The OS and the Drivers are installed... took less time than the upload of the images in this post.

I'm stupefied!

Well, Guys, that's it for now.

Gonna be calling it a day. Tomorrow I will be tweaking the OS and twiddle around with stuff.

Next update will be when the T60 arrives and I transplant the hardware.

Thanks for following along.

Yours truly, Syr.

Hi Syr, congratulations on your hardware upgrade. You have yourself a really stellar system there! Great job on the temp bench, just loving that. I have been eying up the Rat 7 and Rat 9 as well for down the road, glad to hear they are as good as they are hyped up to be. I will assume you installed your OS from CD right? I timed my last installation which was when I upgraded to an SSD and had put my install files on to a USB, from the USB to SSD the entire operation from initial setup to first log on screen was 9 minutes! if you are interested in ever trying it out you can check this tutorial here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-in...working-guide/
Can't wait to see the transplant and more updates for Haven!

Thanks.

And, no, the heatsink is really quiet. Shockingly so.... I had to take a second look to ensure the fans were spinning.

When I start to overclock, things may change.

Thanks, Clox.

Yes, I installed from the CD, but I was busy uploading pics, and halfway through the upload I realised the installation was complete.

IEATFISH gave me some instructions to install from a USB, but I was lazy and just went straight from the CD.

Thanks for the link. I really should try it, if nothing else for the experience.

I just checked the tracking for the T60 tech station, it will be here on Wednesday.... Haven is going to take a little longer.

Once I finish the 3 projects I am currently working on I will return to it Haven.

And yeah... thus far I am very pleased with the R.A.T. 7
