I have been messing around with the Desktop between stress-testing the OC (4.3 currently).

Man! W7 is a something new and refreshing from XP (as far as GUI and add-on stuff is concerned).

I have RocketDock and some gadgets added. Quite cool.

Still have much experimenting to do with RainMeter and Themes.

I ran my first 3D Mark Vantage: 30,952

I can't wait for the Lian Li T60 to show up on Wednesday so that I can yank the Velociraptors from Silentium and install them on the Sandy Bridge build.

The 8800GT is no slouch. I still have one running Faithfully after all these years.

I recall when the 8800 series was released. It was a quite a leap for Nvidia from the 7xxx series.

I had a couple of Ultras back then... they were absolute demons!

Thanks, epidemic.

Still trying to find some MDPC sleeving to finish off the PSU. I think that will put a nice finishing touch on the build.

My i5-2500K @ just under 5.1 GHz:

But this is my pride and joy, a 5.27 GHz Gulftown holding -27C at full load and about -40 at idle.

4.3GHz , should be able to go a lot higher than that on an NH-D14 and 2600K though, apparently people have done 4.4GHz on the stock cooler with the 2500K

Yeah, in honesty the 8800GT is still nothin' to be sniffed at, I just want moar performance and the noise of the fan also annoys me.

The temperatures are rubbish too; 92C load at 100% fan speed, probably something I'm doing wrong but I can't be bothered with fixing it.

Indeed it should, and over the next week I will be climbing ever higher on the frequency ladder as I test for stability then push it higher.

The 4.3 is just the beginning... or so I hope.

In the end I would like to run @ 4.8 24/7 as a 1GHz overclock is generally what I aim for.

... I am also a little wary of the reported "socket burn", so we will have to see how that pans out for the Sandy Bridge Users.

Pics of my new gear?

If so, soon enough.

Update to hardware and some thoughts on added cooling:

I just yanked one of the Velociraptors from the Sig Rig and I am in the process of formatting it now.

Steam and Games will go on this one, then once I decommission the Silentium build I will install the 2nd Velociraptor.

I think that I will also re-use the Auzentech soundcard from the Sig Rig instead of the onboard sound... not sure about that one yet.

Lastly, there is an add-on for the T60 that allows the installation of 2 x 120mm fans on the front of the tech station:

Sadly, I can not find it in stock anywhere in the US.

No worries, I have several acrylic panels and a carbon/Kevlar panel that I can readily use to make my own.

I will update the 1st post of this thread as I make headway.

The T60 is due on Wednesday.
