Hi Syrillian.....I'm Lostcase. You seem like quite the rockstar among your peers...You must do awesome work. After reading this thread..I too am excited and sub'd to see your work. I just completed my first rig a few weeks ago and have to agree with you, its more exciting seeing the boxes of goodies and putting everything together. I had a Scrooge McDuck moment and began to swim in a pile of empty boxes. However, the Asus crosshair IV box did end up cutting my ankle.

Anyway..keep up the good work.

I don't even need to sub this, since it's going to be on the front page of OCN almost every 5 minutes.

Still, I'm subbed just in case.

Greetings, Lostcase.

Congratulations on your first build. I trust that you are enjoying it immensely.

Hahahah... swimming in a sea of boxes like Scrooge McDuck! ...'cept the part where the Asus box bite ya! I guess that's what happens when one get lost in wild abandon.

Is it childish that we take such pleasure in such oddities? Probably, but whatevah!

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7

Note: Let us hope that the initial “socket burn†is not a prevalent issue. Since this is a “prototype build†to supplant my Primary Rig, I still have the option to go back and re-think the entire build… let us hope that this does not come to pass

Processor: i7-2600K

Processor socketed (is that a word?)

Note: I like this socket-type release mechanism. The release lever also raises the frame that secures the CPU.

Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Note: I must give a nod to Noctua for the packaging of this enormous cooler. The configuration of the carton and inner packing is top-notch.

Parts and accessories:

The rear mounting bracket and the mounting frame for the cooler installed:

Memory: Corsair DDR3 1600

Note: Still on the fence with this kit. I will see how things pan out before making a final assessment.

… let us hope that the cooler clears the RAM. It looks like it will, but I will know soon enough…

More to come in a short while.

Loooooooooooooooool!

RAM failure, the modules are too tall.

So now I have to make a decision:

1) Continue with installation using both RAM modules and the stock cooler

2) Continue with installation using the Noctua and a single RAM module in slot 4

3) Wait and order (which I will anyway) RAM that is of a standard profile (height).

Comments (other than laughing at me ) please?

Too busy drooling to laugh.....

See if you can return the modules for a credit towards a different set. I would wait personally, but I doubt I would be able to face the urges...... lol. Meh, just use the stock cooler until you get new modules, word is you can overclock a bit with the stock cooler.

Hahahahahahaha!

I know right?

I vacillate between laughing my ass off at my shenanigans and staring at these beautiful components.

I'm still giddy.... even though I screwed up.
