Second, which video card provides better cooling as well as quietness. I'm putting this into my silent rig and I want the more quiet one.

I am not going to be OC'ing neither so I will run at stock. Having this said, which is better?

Choose between the two below.

MSI Hawk
Asus DirectCU
no the hawk does not make sound while booting i own it personally
secondly hawk is the coolest of them all
idle 27
load 62(while playing metro and crysis)
otherwise load-55
its factory overclocked to 810 mhz and u can go upto 850 mhz core without overvolting so its nice.....

one vote for asus gtx 60CU, I think thats the CU TOP version? Anyways, expect over 900mhz core with the asus card easily...

and also even if the gtx 560 does come out soon, the price of the gtx 460's is hardly gonna drop much, there already cheap as
post #24 of 52
i think the hawk is a better overclocker and has better cooling than asus direct cu.....
asus---3 heatpipes
msi hawk---4 heatpipes....

on topic, I don't own asus direct CU but hawk is pretty damn quiet with fans running and it runs cool also. really depends on what you want, if your budget is around 200 and under, just snag one, other wise, wait till 560 to hit the market in just under 2 weeks

The Hawk is a 460 on steroids so I would go for that.

Still it costs $230 on Newegg.com and at $290 you can get a 20% faster dead silent Gigabyte 470 SOC.

Or you could wait for the GTX 560. The prices for the GTX 460 will go down and that card might turn out to be faster than Hawk.

LOL Funny thread. Probably just all comes down to preference I'd think. I'll vote for the Asus because as of yesterday I have two 1Gb DirectCU TOP's. Picked both up Newegg open box. $180
for the first one a few months ago and $157 for the one I received yesterday.

I probably could have stayed stable @ 1050mV for that. But I noticed even though I was passing testing (OCCT, Kombustor) I was getting better Vantage scores by bumping the voltage up to 1087mV.

31,403 Vantage GPU score on the first day lol

single card cooling numbers http://www.overclock.net/11669764-post8.html

So far I'm very happy with them. Very quiet fan under 65% or so. Cools well. With my motherboard the cards are VERY close together so cooling was important. As far as overclocking I doubt one will overclock much better than the other. One might come with higher stock voltage but with AB that just isn't a big deal. Good luck getting either stable much past 900MHz.
