how is that related to someone releasing information to pirate games. Thats not the same a overclocking a locked clock cpu. You fry the chip they dont care you will buy another and they will make a profit.

The argument was to point out that you're asking why Sony is the bad guy in a forum of people who customize to get more performance out of their products than what they paid for. You read into it too much, lol. You also have to realize that we're all anti-pirate on this site, so most that are opposing Sony (according to their posts) are solely doing so because they know they won't be doing anything bad with the exploit.

As long as I can walk into a store and buy a console without signing anything, they have no control over it. By the time that I have taken possession of the device its way too late for them to negotiate the terms that I will use it under. EULAs always have been and always will be complete BS.

Give me one reason to care about that terrible piece of legislation.

So far, everything he has released does not provide a method to play pirated games.

The back of my PS3 box says...
  • Carefully read this package together with the product documentation before use. Retain the documentation for future reference.
  • The system software included within this product is subject to a limited license from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Refer to http://www.scei.co.jp/ps3-eula for further details.
And...
  • Design and specifications are subject to change without notice

By placing these on the back of the box, they have officially given you an opportunity to find out what you are getting into before you even open the box and if you have internet access, you can even read the EULA. Whether it's BS or not isn't the situation here, you agreed by purchasing and using the product. It's a done deal. Don't be angry about it. You know there's fine print on nearly everything you purchase.

A notice that there is a license (duh) and some external location where I can read about it doesn't cut it.

If sony was smart, they'd either heir him to prevent this sort of thing or pay him off and sign him under contract to not jailbreak the ps3, or something of the sort. Its a fat chance that either one would happen though. That would be a way to get him off of unloading and circumventing every pathetic security measure sony put in place.

And another update... I am disgusted at Sony's tactics. I'm boycotting them. Not to mention illegal...

SCEA vs. Geohot - Day #2 - More Court Files!

Quote:
Well Day #2 is now over with tons of papers filed by both Sony and Mr. Hotz!

Thanks to our new PSX-SCENE member Sangreal who was kind enough to drop us all the latest court files.

The best reading is #04.pdf, which is 280+ pages of printouts from various forums, websites, etc.

And Sony has not been idle either. They filed new papers showing that forum users have been cloning and mirroring the various GIT's, also noting that at one point Mr. Hotz had removed the 'root key' from his website. It is clear that Sony has been keeping an Eagle Eye on all the sites practically minute by minute!

A strange tactic Sony is attempting to use against Mr. Hotz was to send him $1 via his paypal account, which was the same as his email address, to prove that he was taking donations, even though he never requested any donations at any time! -- Naughty SCEA!

But, not to worry, it seems Mr. Hotz has hired a very good lawyer and his defense filings are a testament to that. They make for good reading also.
New PDF's and 282pg claim at the source.
