[Engadget]Sony Orders Restraining Order on Geohot, fail0verflow for PS3 exploits - Page 9

Sony -used- to have my respect.

Library of Congress authorized/legalized jailbreaking/rooting. They also allowed LT+ firmware for the 360. This is the same basic thing. Stop whining like a ***** Sony and patch it if it's this big of a deal. If Sony used -basic- cryptography like everyone else (non-random seeds.) they could have avoided this. They could also have not removed numerous features people used including OtherOS.

Fine, a noble goal; but I doubt they are gonna achieve a single thing with lawsuits.

Just another case of the creator of a product keeping ownership of something you purchased

Sony can try all they want. They cannot close Pandora's box after it has been opened.

It would seem these threads have merged.

Thanks mods.

Oh, I would love to see him counter sue for personal damages as a result of this ordeal and make big bank.

-----

Edit:

Well, that changes things.
Lol. This is will be like the DMCA/DVD deCSS thing all over again and will just bring publicity to how well Sony's console was hacked. If Geohot is smart he will let Sony win the suit without putting any money into it, the damage is already done.

That's if US laws are relevant. Kinda like when the RIAA try to sue Swedish businesses under American law... it's just not relevant. I don't really know what legislation Sony are following.

I support Geohot. In my mind I spent 500$ on a soon to be outdated console to own and do as I please with it (my turn with the sexbox). Legally, it isn't so, but do I care?

You guys who are nut hugging Sony are forgetting that these keys that were published are not protected by IP law. The keys are also NOT Sony's property.

If you read the documentation the major claim is that Geohot used the known information to extort, which is a VERY long stretch of the definition extort. No where in his release of information does it directly state that he is wanting a job.
