It's been widely accepted that a frame rate of about 30fps is playable. What [H] does is find out the maximum settings for each card where the average frame rate is right around 30fps. This gives people an idea of how far they can push these cards and what to expect out of them in terms of performance. THEN, at the end of each page they do an Apples-to-Apples comparison with each card at the same resolution and settings and then compares the frame rates at a level playing field. [H] has been doing this for years and I used to hate the changed settings too, but when you actually READ THE ARTICLES and not just look at the graphs, you'll see these guys actually have some smart things to say.

I'm free to criticise anything i wish bud . At least it was so on OCN last time i heard.

Smooth frame prograssion? hmmm do you mean people who claim human eye can detect frames faster than 60 or you mean people who say 30 FPS is smooth enough for them? As you can see there is no consensus on this thing.

OK...let's see...would you consider 5FPS to be a playable setting? Or would you agree that there is a minimum acceptable frame rate, regardless of resolution?

Convenient, but not very realistic. The average player will not run at 640x480, they will run at the native resolution of their monitor. The average player will want as much eye candy as possible at that resolution. The average player will want that combination of eye candy and resolution to run at a frame rate which does not look like a slide show or slow-motion playback.

Quite clearly, you are NOT the average player...

I notice the frame drop when it goes from 60 to 45 in BC2.
