Hello everyone, I'm upgrading from an old dual core build by Dell.

I've got an average computer knowledge but I need to be sure if I am doing the right thing here, so please be patient.

So here is the setup I am planning to buy from Newegg.ca

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K

ASUS P8P67 PRO LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Item #: N82E16813131682

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH

XFX HD-687A-ZNBC Radeon HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card with Eyefinity

Recertified: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II Advanced Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler
Item #: N82E16835608018

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power ...

??? My questions ???

Is that an overall good build ?

I find the RAM a bit overpriced, I don't understand is the timing and such, so I don't know if it's good, anything about that ?

If I want to overclock it, will that fan carry it without problems? The power supply is fine too ? I've also heard that the 2600K OC isn't that hard, is there any risk if it's my first OC ?

My MB will fit the case ?

You got any suggestions about the overall system ?

Thanks to you for reading me, hope you can help.

RAM:I really dont think you need 8GB. 4 should be good. If you want 8 you can but you only need 4.
4GB- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104140
8GB- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231308

Memory-The tighter the timings are the better.

PSU-good
Yes mobo will fit in case.

EDIT: forgot to say that you will be goodwith that cpu cooler.

Alright, thank you very much for your reply, still about the RAM, now that I understand the timing, what about the frequency ? You've linked me to lower frequency RAM, I've chosen 1600, is that too high or something ?

Thanks again

The RAM is great - good speeds and tight timings. Should do you very well.

Overclocking the 2600k will be easy, but that cooler is probably larger than you need. These chips have been overclocking to 4.4ghz+ on stock coolers- you should definitely get a cooler, but you can save some money there.

Also the 6870 has a low headroom for overclocking, and is thus overpriced compared with its smaller sibling, the 6850. A large overclock on the 6850 will put its performance above a stock 6870. My Gigabyte 6850 ($179) runs very cool and quietly, and performs above what a stock 6870 does.
(Proof: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/364...ked/index.html)

The money saved between the two (avg. $40-$70) and with a smaller cooler ($30) could put you 2/3rd's of the way towards a 6850 crossfire setup which is the best bang for the buck now, or up to a 6950 almost all of which can unlock to 6970's.

Why a refurbished HDD? Have you had any luck with refurbished drives before? I've never entertained the idea of using 2nd hand HDD's.

Everything else is perfect, and whilst I'm not a huge fan of that case it has a great feature set and loads of support from many users.

Alright, I've decided to go with a XTF Radeon 6950, I've chosen another RAM pack wich seem to be the exact same thing for a lower price :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231401

Just the design seem a bit ugly compared to the other, but idc.

As for the fan, I would want to follow your idea on the smaller fan, do you have any lower priced fan to suggest, but I want it to still do the job ?

EDIT : And for the case, I ended up with this one, because i was tired of looking at cases, if you got any cases with front panel usb 3.0, just write it down

Thanks again
