1090T on stock cooler

Thread Starter
hey guys I'm new to overclocking

I just changed it from 3.2 GHz to 3.6 (still saving for DH14)

my buddy helped me out.. but he put the vcore way too high at first. 1.446

so I turned it back down after reading some stuff on here.

I ran prime 95 but it gets too hot (in the high 50s) so I stop it when it gets that high.. anyone know why it gets so hot? I thought 3.6 GHz was a rather mild OC..could you guys take a look at my readings and please tell me if I should change any settings... Thanks

but shouldnt it still be stable at 3.6 Ghz with the stock cooler? Thats what I was told. If I left Prime 95 running it would fry my chip.. I'm confused

u were told wrong, stock cooling is barely sufficient for stock clocks

dont oc unless u get some kind of aftermarket cooler

maybe 3.4 at most.

Fellow the guide lines and you be fine.
Ok. Here the breakdown on that you need to know for ocing any athlon II and phenom II cpu on air.
1) Max cpu voltage is 1.55v.
2) Keep temp under 55c. MAX is 62c.
3) NB frequency take it as high as you can take it and stable.
4) CPU/NB voltage max 1.45v. This the voltage for NB Frequency.
5) Keep HT around 2000.

The Phenom II x6 runs cooler the those Phemon II x4, which both of them have the same stock cooler. Some people oc a 1055T(125w) to 3.6-3.8 on a stock cooler, so he can run a mild oc on a stock cooler.

Thanks dixson.. Still a bit confused though because why wouldnt it be stable at those settings? stable means prime 95 with CPU at a plateau temp right? my temps just kept increasing until I was too afraid to let it keep going

I was able to overclock to 3.3 on stock with my 1055, and I was idling at 50 degrees celcius.

Also, you DO NOT need to keep your temps under 55, a Phenom's lifespan will not be reduced by much, even if run at 70 celcius.

To the OP
You may have also seated the cooler wrong, or have your fan settings for the PWM set to a high temperature value.

Also check that the retention bracket is in the right position.

For the mild oc you can let it go to the max on temp range (62c max) and you be fine. You need to replace the thermal paste on the stock cooler.

It is a rule of thumbs for a high oc like 3.9ghz for higher. Most Phenom II at 3.9ghz or higher is unstable with any temps higher then 55c.
