My recommendation to you earlier in this thread was for a budget upgrade. Jason did a great job recommending you good parts for a system overhaul as opposed to an upgrade for a couple hundred dollars more!

You will notice a huge improvement in your gaming experience since you are getting a much better monitor than what you were running. And your mom will have a much better desktop in the end as well.

Enjoy!
Indeed - I was amazed at how cheaply his rig was updated to a beast including brand new 23" monitor. That was amazing considering how much a "cheap" 775 quadcore upgrade would have set him back.

So was I and that was exactly what pushed me into doing the whole thing instead of just the cpu and gpu. I'm going to get everything up and running before I start to push things and in time I'm sure I'll be ordering a new cooler and maybe even another GTX470 to keep mine company.

As for my old system, after talking to my mother she wishes to have a laptop instead of a desktop so I'll be selling it to help finance that. Women can never make up their mind. I'll be posting a thread in the appraisal section to help with pricing if any of you care to help there as well.

I also would just like to say that everyone here has been extremely helpful and without a single hint of attitude towards a n00b. It's really a refreshing and unexpected experience compared to most forums now a days.

Well that's very nice then. The money you'll get back from selling your old components will make this a very cheap upgrade indeed. And so long as your mother is happy, nothing else matters ahaha - best to keep them happy and thus off your back and (relatively) silent in my experience.

And the Sandybridge processor should hit 4ghz on stock cooling (I believe) if you were such inclined. Frankly it will be night and day compared to your old rig at stock.

And that's lovely feedback, there is quite the community on here - the only noobs that get flamed are those who are looking for it, by asking questions then arguing against suggestions with faulty logic and the like ... Make sure you +Rep those who REALLY help you and treat you fairly, it's a nice way of saying thanks. But be sparing too

Welcome on-board, this is your one-stop-shop for all electronic needs. You can forget the rest now haha
