xfx 750a sli oc questions

Thread Starter
Hello, I've been reading through a lot of posts, and learned a lot. Though it seems that nothing I have learned really applies to the XFX 750a mobo.

Basically, when I change the CPU Frequency from the base 200, to anything higher like 210. My system becomes unstable. Or if I make a change in the AMD Overclocking Configuration. Options are NB FID and NB VID. The changes do not take effect.

I tried switching to XFX's automatic overclocking feature, and get more options under the AMD Overclocking Configuration. Options include Core FID, Core VID, Core DID, NB FID, NB VID, and NB DID. Any changes I make here don't seem to matter, as the system automatically goes to 3.25GHz. (Will not load windows, and sometimes wont boot either)
I've tried lowering the Core FID, raising it, and even leaving it at default.

Has anyone run into this kind of issue with the xfx 750a?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also, I would like to add, that my current cpu the AMD Athlon x2 7550 will be upgraded to an AMD Phenom II x4 925 later this week.

My 2 cents: some boards' BIOS simply isn't good for overclocking. Maybe OC functions aren't well implemented or aren't there at all - your board seems to be like this; moreover Nvidia boards for AMD processors were good 5 years ago, but now they aren't great. In this case there's only one thing you could do really: buy a Black Edition CPU. It can be overclocked by simply increasing the multiplier, if the BIOS can do that (and usually it is possible).
I've seen a 940BE on newegg below 100$, you can't get more value for $ than that. You may have better luck with an unlocked CPU if the board is limited @210HT.

I do intend to buy a new mobo sometime in the coming months, but until that time I would like to get this thing overclocked at least a little. Suggestions on what will work with the 925, and a x6. The x6 is coming after a mobo upgrade of course.

Its fine for OC, manually but for auto you should have a good cooling system because the jumps are high. I have this board with 7750 @ 3.0 stable for weeks now.

Okay board, the manual and support are not so great.

When you oc'd, what options did you change? As I've said I tried both ways when changing the settings, but can never get it to load, post. I'm not sure if its not saving what changes I make or not. The only change I have seen that was succesful was changing th NB FID while in the "auto" oc mode... Everything else justs reverts back to defaults in both modes. I can change the base core frequency, but not beyond 210 stable, 220 is good for about 2hours and 230 if im lucky will work for 48 minutes. I don't get a bsod or restart, just freezes up... Temps are always low, around 40°c load, and about 27°c idle.

Currently running @ 223 CPU power are set @ 1.35 or @ 223 and the rest of the power are set to Auto. Also the jumper on the board for automatic overclocking is set to locked, on BIOS its on manual. Always use optimal or failsafe then try to set all the other options to auto. I'll update this post when I get to type the actual fields and try to get a screenie if I can.
