$200 ATI or Nividia HELP!

Thread Starter
I have a $200 gift card that expire next year but I'm so tempted to upgrade my video card, 8800 GT SC. I'm leaning towards ATI because my UD3P support CF if needed in the future. I've used Nvidia GPU about 14+ years and happy with overall performance and support. I want the best bang for my bucks but I'm so confused with all the options. I've been looking at the GTX 460, 470, ATI 6850, and 6950. I'm willing to add $100 if necessary but I prefer not to. I game at resolution 1920x1200 and 1920x1080.

BTW will the 6950 and 6970 be cheaper when the 6990 is release? I'm very tempted to get one of these card because of the 2gb rams. Any suggestion from OCN guru's are very much appreciated, thx in advance.

I have tried 9800gt sc ,8800gt oc ,gtx 460 1gb cyclone ,HD5850 ,& a laptop based HD5470 ....Now I am using 9500gt..what I found is nvidia drivers are really solid ....

IMHO you just try a MSI gtx 460 cyclone or wait for gtx 560

i would recommend a GTX470 myself unless it cost to much for you then a 460 will do fine. dont get the 460 SE or the 465 they are worse then the 460.

Wouldn't the 6850 be a superior card compare to a gtx 460. According to this benchmark, http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...g-study-5.html, they're only a few fps difference. the 6850 is also cheaper by $20... what do u guys think?

I personally would go for 2 5770 in crossfire.
However the recommended power supply is 600w for this.
I think that this will give you the absolute best bang for the buck.

If that fit my budget I would definitely give it a try but my PSU only have 550w. Upgrading the PSU will put a hole in my wallet.

The cheapest 5770 is $129.99 and two will cost me $260. I can get a 6950 for $289 so will two 5770 out perform a 6950? Also do I need to upgrade my PSU for a gtx 460, 470, 68xx, or 69xx?

If the game you are playing scales well with crossfire then yes.
You can find used 5770s here on OCN for around $100. If you get a pair on the cheap you might have enough extra to get a new PSU also.

I don't think seller at OCN will take a $200 gift card transaction... I also de-activated my paypal account 8+ years ago.

Oh yeah thats right i forgot about the gift card. You never know someone may take that as payment. If I was selling cards I would consider it.
