Overclocking i7 950... Am I on the right track

Hi guys. I am new to the forum and have recently started overclocking my i7 950 CPU. I would like to know if I am on the right track.

CPU: Intel i7 950
MOBO: MSI X58A-GD65
RAM: 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz
GPU: 2 x NIVIDIA GTX 465
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition
COOLING: Stock cooling with X7 X Station gaming case 3 x fans (1x large 21cm)

I have basically followed all the noob guides on this forum and esleware and done the following:

(1) Disabled Hyperthreading (to reduce heating)
(2) Disabled EIST, C1E Support, Overspeed Protection, Spread Spectrum
(3) Increased qpi to 1.25v, VDIMM to 1.65v
(4) Increased the core Voltage to 1.16v (I think I did this right but the MSI board is a bit wierd with how this works).
(5) Increased my CPU frequency to 156 and multiplier is 23. Core speed is now 3579Mhz.
(6) I reduced my memory ratio to 4 giving me DRAMM frequency of 622 (dual channel). Closest I could get to 1333Mhz.

The system is running very stabile with core temps less than 80 deg. C with Prime 95 running overnight.

I want to get a better heat sink and ram before going higher than 3.5GHz... any suggestions/ideas?

What's your price range? I always recommend the Hyper 212+ because it's a great little cooler and VERY affordable. Then again, I think the jury has agreed that between the Silver Arrow, Archon and DH14... take your pick as to the best.

Don't use the stock paste- no matter which you buy. Get a decent paste as well... there's lots of options- my favourite is IC7 Diamond though I've seen MX-4 is very popular as well.

As for the OC so far... If it's stable then it looks good. I think you've about hit the ceiling insofar as the stock cooling is concerned.

Thanks for the tips. I will check out the coolers you mentioned. I check my temp all the time so I think its ok for now.

Any suggestions re RAM? I was thinking 1600Mhz but some people say this can be a problem when OC to 4Ghz with my chip?
