Vsync on, with FPS greater than 60? Pointless?

Thread Starter
If your getting more than 60FPS, due to having strong graphics cards per se, wouldn't keeping vsync on be.... a wrong decision?

Like, your frames would be capped at 60, when you can well exceed that...

...so is there any point to keep vsync on when you can exceed 60 frames?

Oh, and your cards have to work harder right? So turning vsync off will provide more FPS but at the cost of temperatures right?

thanks

Vsync on, fixes the tearing you are likely to experience at FPS > than your monitor's refresh rate.

I don't have screen tear in most games... So don't use vsync that extra bit of lag is annoying. But if you do have screen tear it's a great tool to be used!

If using triple buffering, you will not necessarily incur "lag".
An in depth explanation of why & how is available here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2794/1

Edit:
Just to cover myself, I feel it prudent to point out that it depends on the implementation of "triple buffering" as to whether you will incur additional "lag" as the term "triple buffering" is ambiguous in nature and there are differences between varying implementations (either via DXs native one, or the respective game's internals) involving render ahead queues and so forth.

really personal preference, I used to play bc2 with vsync off but I just couldn't stand the tearing, now i play with vsync on, game doesn't feel laggy or anything, but some games will feel super laggy like L4d2, at least IN my experience.

but more FPS doesnt = see opponents first.
