Just add a male to male rotary fitting to the card if you want to connect the drain line at that point.

May I suggest an easier alternative? Simply buy 3 Koolance Quick disconnects. Buy 2 male and one female QDC. Put the QDC somewhere along your lowest piece of tubing. When you want to drain simply disconnect the QDC and connect the third piece with an additional piece of tubing. Then the water will drain out into a bucket very easily.

Do you get what I'm saying?

I get what you're saying, it is a good idea, but doesn't the drain valve do the same thing? Surely if I connect the drain valve along some tubing from the graphics card (or to the rotary fitting as you suggested), I can simply remove the cap when I want to drain? The quick disconnect fittings in total are more than double the price of one drain valve, too.

Furthermore, am I right in thinking that a rotary fitting acts as a standard fitting? If you understand what I mean. For example I could have:

CPU Block -> Tubing > Compression Fitting > GPU Block > Rotary Fitting > Drain Valve > Compression Fitting (or Rotary fitting) > Tubing -> Pump

This is what I meant by male to male rotary fitting:



Basically it just directly connects that drain line part to the GPU block. The rotary part allows it to spin so that it isn't stuck at an odd angle.

Aha, I see what you mean now.

I reckon having the drain valve's removable cap pointing any way other than downwards could cause problems, though, so the best course of action would probably be to have a compression fitting coming out of the graphics card, tubing in a 90-degree style fashion, then two male-to-male compression fittings either side of the drain valve to allow the valve to remain parallel with the bottom of the case. So when I take the cap off, the water will go downwards rather than sidewards (which would be the case if I were to connect it straight to the graphics card).

The loop would then look like this:

Pump -> Radiator -> CPU Block -> GPU Block -> Tubing > Male-to-Male fitting > Drain Valve > Male-to-Male fitting > Tubing -> Pump

All connected with standard compression fittings unless stated otherwise. This would bring the number of fittings needed, if I've calculated correctly, to:

8 Compression fittings
2 Male-to-Male Compression fittings
1 Drain valve


I've constructed the above based on your good advice, it seems like the best course of action without spending a whole load of money getting a load of 45 degree fittings. I've heard about them leaking and don't fancy chancing it, not to mention my wallet being strapped at the moment.

Come to think of it, I'd actually need 10 compression fittings wouldn't I. I'd need two fittings to connect the tubing to the male-to-male rotary adapter. This makes the quick disconnect fittings look like the cheaper option, I'll construct a basket with these and with the male-to-male adapter to see which is cheapest.

I think I'm confused as to what the quick disconnect fittings actually do. If I go by your method of buying two males and a female, am I right in thinking it would be:

GPU Block > Tubing > Female QDC > Male QDC > Tubing > Pump

Then when disconnected, I attach the second Male QDC into the female QDC and allow the water to drain out? When the QDC is disconnected, it completely stops the flow of water, right? i.e. when the fitting is disconnected from the loop, the water will not come out until a male QDC is fitted in again.

EDIT: Nevermind, I understand exactly what you mean now. I'll look into the price differences.

No, the male to male adapter doesn't connect to tubing. It directly connects the threading on the graphics card to that koolance drain unit. Basically you just screw the adapter into the GPU block and then screw the adapter directly onto it.

It works out £11 cheaper to go with the drain valve and I think I'm going to go with the cheaper option.

This would mean the final layout will be:

CPU Block > GPU Block (2 compression fittings) > Drain Valve (2 compression fittings either side) > Pump

Meaning I need to order:

GPU Block
3m White tubing (taking some extra to Australia with me just incase)
4 compression Fittings
Drain valve

I realise that when I've attached the compression fittings to the drain valve, I can make the actual drain port of the valve point downwards by simply angling it this way when I push the tubing on to it. No idea what I was thinking before.

This is, assuming the above setup would be correct. I can't help but think the quick disconnect fittings would look much nicer, though, and be worth spending the extra £11. Hmm.

How would uv white go? what ever Cold cathodes you choose that is what colour the tubing will be. that way better to change cathodes than tubing.
