ASUS P8P67 PRO Cold boot issues - Page 3

I did a full CMOS reset and everything appears to be fine now. I have booted up twice with no problems, but I don't want to try it again just in case I have to re-do all the settings again.

This morning I came to find it wouldn't boot with my overclock. The post code just hung on either 59 or 63.

It also sometimes happens when I just normally reboot the PC. Windows shuts down, but so does the computer. It turns back on and voila, no post.

Do you think this is a BIOS issue? Because leaving my PC on 24/7 isn't really an option.
How can Windows be so stable, yet the bios/boot so damn flaky

I'm getting the same code 59 on cold boots, occasionally something different, like the 63. 59 = "CPU microcode not found or microcode update is failed"
I think the bug comes up before the ram is powered on (no lights on my smart tracers).
codes 63-67 indicate "CPU DXE initialization started".
Mine usually fires up again after powering off-on a few times, entering bios, then restarting.

I was digging through the manual forever to find that clear cmos button (hidden between the audio ports and the first usb/lan ports for anyone else who's looking). Anything special to doing the clear cmos via the button ? power on/power off ? I've only used jumpers before.

After doing some research it seems that most of the boot issues are from ram settings, at least it was this way for me. Once I found ram settings the board liked I can boot perfectly and I have the initial bios (0804 or 0408 I am to lazy to look atm).

+1 with some cold boot issues on P8P67 Pro. Not a show stopper, but it can take a few tries before I get through bios. All RAM settings are at default.

Not overly concerned with it right now but I expect better from a pricey board like this.

default meaning auto? I had to literally set every ram setting manually. Now I get no error. I almost did a bios update but I dont need to right this second now. Kinda waiting for the newest bios to come out of beta then ill get that since it helps overclocking d2s

Ya, auto. It got the speed and timings right for the RAM i'm using (unlike my other Asus board) so I didn't bother changing anything.

How will the new bios help overclocking rev. D2 specifically..?

So far I just used Asus' OC-for-dummies app do the work, it got 4.5ghz. From what I've read here I wouldn't get much more (4.8?) through manual tuning, considering the sink is an el cheapo Hyper 212.

"Enable support of "Internal PLL Overvoltage" item to allow better CPU Turbo Ratio overclock capability with D2 Stepping processors. " - asus site

set your ram timings ram voltage and ram speed manually. Fixed my issues

A lot of people have been saying that clearing the CMOS using the jumper fixed the problem.

What worked for me?

Clear CMOS using the jumper fixed the problem.

Weird... But it's fixed.

is the clrtc the cmos jumper? I did the clrtc jumper reset but it didnt reset any of my eufi settings so I am not sure if I did it wrong or that isnt the cmos jumper. If that is the jumper how did you clear with that jumper?

I did the switch the jumper with everything powered off and power to psu unplugged. changed jumper for about 20 secs put back and booted and nothing changed.

but you can now enable XMP profile without cold boot problems
