BSOD on windows 7 Installation

I am trouble shooting a friends HP S5000 Slimline PC. He approached me stating he was doing some trouble shooting of his own when he accidentally disabled the system partition. He is not familiar to Windows 7 and didn't realize that the system reserved 100mb partition. He told me no big deal if it just needs to be wiped clean etc...

Upon initial boot it states Bootmgr missing. I pulled the drive and put it in my PC and ran check disk and diagnostics on it. Everything checked out. I recovered any data that might be important. I put the drive back into the HP.

HP specs.
AMD II X5200
4GB Hynix (?) PC3-10600 Ram
250 Watt PSU
Single DVD Drive
600 GB WD Blue
Onboard video.

I attempted to install windows 7 Home Premium which was the OS on the machine in the first place. At expanding Windows Files at 0% the vdieo became distorted and the PC froze. I entered the garbage HP bios where there are VERY limited options and disabled anything unnecessary to the install (ie Onboard audio etc..) I retried installing 7 and I get a BSOD at the same spot. The BSOD is identical each time with primary being STOP: 0X0000000124. A google of that is pretty vague and points to hardware.

To keep this short I tried everything. I have swapped PSU's, used bare minimum ram 2 different sticks, swapped HDD's, tried a PCI Video card with on board disabled, tried installing from USB Thumb Drive image with DVD drive disabled, re seated the CPU, PS/2 Keyboard only etc..

Every attempt I get the same BSOD. Any ideas from this point?

It does not sound like a hardware problem but maybe a software problem. I have had similar problems. Try a different Windows 7 disk, maybe the disk is currupted. Is the recovery partition still there, or was that wiped too?

I did pop in my 7 Ultimate Disc and give it a shot and had same issue. I deleted the partitions in the advanced dis options at the install screen and created a new one. Windows of course created it's 100mb system partition as usual. I just used the 7 Ultimate Disc not 10 minutes ago on a new SSD and am typing from that install right now. I did create a bootable iso on a thumb drive and was able to start windows install just like the DVD Rom image but it fails and BSO'ds at the same point. There is no bios update from HP later than the one installed. Thanks for the response. I'll keep at it.

Did you remember to install the AHCI driver's at the setup screen? when it shows you the list of drives availble to install the O/S on?

No I did not, however was not aware they were needed. There is no option between AHCI/IDE in the bios. I am not used to working on these pre built machines/bios's. I'll look into it.

Uhhhh...I thought that would be an issue considering I have an EVGA Classified Intel board with an Intel Processor.

I mis posted up top. The CPU is and AMD II X 250 not the X5200. It's an AM3.

Sorry, got ahead of myself. Forgot it was an OEM pc he has anyways. Win7 is much more forgiving when changing hardware but since his is an OEM it won't work for licensing.

He doesn't have any caps blown on the mobo does he? I know dell's were really bad about this and they cause some funky things to happen.

It doesn't appear so. Unfortunately I dont have another Socket AM3 laying around to swap. I'll have to try that next. Thanks again.
