Need a good oc guide for the 470

Or just a general guide explaining how to OC GPUs properly. I got my card on water now, and I hear these boys looove them some volts, and this being an Asus card I expect much satisfaction in the oc area. Just need a good guide to follow because I don't plan on frying anything.

Download afterburner if you haven't and unlock Vcore. Taise Vcore to max, try something high like 900 core, run crysis benchmark maxed out for 20 loops, it passes it's stable, if not more vcore with a new bios or less core clock. I find Crysis is the best tester, OCCT GPU will find errors that a GPU would otherwise be stable folding and gaming for hours on end, so I don't use it.

That doesn't really sound safe, starting at that high of a clock, from a card that is stock @ 607MHZ. I have Afterburner installed already, and I have the voltage unlocked already. I sold Crysis so I'll have to use another benchmark.

That coolit omni 470 should perform on par or less than the Accelero Xtreme Plus, so I'd say you start from 800 core/1.087v first, then gradually raise the voltage up to 1.15v for 850-900 core. I saw some people running their card under custom loop at 1.2v or more but that's just insane to me. Better keep your card under 1.087v air-cooled or 1.15v under water. Those are just my opinions.

1. Download and install MSI Afterburner + Kombustor
2. Run Kombustor, let the card reach max temps (10-15 mins)
3. Set your fan to 100% (not sure how that works on water)
4. I think it's safe to say that a GTX 470 overclocks up to 700 MHz without any issues so raise your Core Clock to 700 MHz, check out for artifacts in Kombustor for 5 mins
5. Test the OC with a few runs in Heaven 2.1 or any version of 3D Mark
6. Continue raising the core clock if no problems (use 20 MHz increments, e.g: raise to 720, test, raise to 740, repeat tests etc)
7. If you start seeing artifacts decrease the clock by 20 MHz and increase the voltage (max voltage allowed in Afterburner should be fine) and continue increasing the core clock until you get stable framerate, temps and no artifacts.
8. Increase the memory clock in 20 MHz increments starting at stock speeds. Memory on GTX 470 is not always a good overclocker from what i've heard. If your system locks up then you went too far.
9. Save your stable profile in Afterburner and run it at each start-up or manually before you play games (recommended).

I already have it installed as mentioned before, and you know the thing about water cooling, is that there are no fans on the card.

I guess one of my most critical questions is what is the increment in which the memory clock should be increased in comparison to the core/shader clocks?

Well the shader overclocks automatically (on GTX 470 it's double the core).

As I said 20 MHz should be OK for both core and memory.

Work on the core clock first, and then once you find the most stable max core clock, work on the memory. In my case, if my memory is too high, my core can't go as high as it could. You will see more performance from core ocing than memory ocing on fermi.

edit: yeah increments of around 10-29 MHz initially, and then once it starts to artifact back off by around 10 MHz and test again.

I would start at 800c and 1.087 v since you are under water.

My 470 can hit just a bit over 900 on the core and be stable with the memory hanging around 1850 (in afterburner) but if I up the memory any more than that I have to drop the core clock to make it stable. The highest I've been able to push the memory and keep the core stable is 2100 and the core at 865.

I've been able to push it to 880/2100 and it be stable in furmark/kombuster for over 30 minutes, but as soon as I step up to a benchmark like Heaven it starts to fail. I get better FPS in furmark with higher memory OC but in a benchmark like Heaven I get better FPS/score with higher core clocks. In games higher core shows more FPS.

This is on 1.087v. The highest the cards hit, and mine is underwater too, is 44C. If I turn off the radiator fans it hits 50-52C.

As for what to start with, push the volts to 1.087 and start at 750 on the core. Work up in increments of 25 or so until you get into the 820+ range. Once you get close to 900 on the core I'd hold off and OC the memory a little to see how much you can get out of it at those core levels.
