Does the bios have option for speed change of the PCIe - cause sometimes this is an issue.

His boards only got two slots, it's not like he's got a choice, nor is he gonna stick it in the wrong slot.

Ok, uninstalled CCC as well as uninstalled both Cards which were appearing one at a time as display adaptors before transitioning to two "uninstalled devices." Did a restart after that and had two ATI 5850s in Display adators. Did a shutdown following that and turned it on this morning only to see it finding just one 5850.

Now that sounds like a hardware issue, possibly with the slot. Check the pice slots, blow it out with canned air. Alt, you can clean the cards data paths with some alcohol just to make sure they're clean.

Now try just one card alone in each slot. Yer trying to figure out if you have a bad slot. Also, I've seen slots that have bad tolerances and you'd need to push down on a card for better contact on the pins, etc...

Let us now how it goes.

Both Card registered when attempting to boot with a single card in the Primary PCIe-x16 slot. Neither Card registered when trying to boot with a single card in the Secondary PCIe-x16 slot. I want to say I have a fault Secondary PCIe-x16 slot but I'm not sure the board is set up to boot from a single card in the secondary slot like that.

Swap the vid card boot order. However, the board should boot with whatever card is plugged in. The switch is only when you have multiple cards giving the choice of which to boot from.

I haven't actually done this before with video cards, this would be in the bios too I'm assuming?

check your mobo manual, with the gigabyte 790x u have to do something in bios for the crossfire! maybe asus do the same
post #20 of 21
Thread Starter
Went through my bios found nothing about Crossfire or booting with a videocard in the secondary PCIe-x16 slot. The only thing my Mobo manual mentioned about it was that I have to uninstall all existing cards from device manager before CrossfireX will work properly. I'm sure I've done this 1000x before but I guess I'll try that again before I contact newegg to see if I can get an replacement sent to me before I send the broken one back to them.

Edit: Well as of now I've pretty much decided my motherboard is dying. I haven't seen the second 5850 pop up in device manager in over a week and just today all graphical applications (games, maya, etc..) are running extremely poorly despite not using any system resources. Going to contact Newegg tomorrow. Thanks for your help tsm.
