Building new is a completely different situation. I would, and have, recommended Sandy to anyone building a system today.
That's debatable. Upgrading from x6 to SB in this case is more questionable than the case of a new system, but still viable. I wouldn't call increases in FPS of 10+ or more negligible. Clearly he's spent a lot of money on his system, I would also attempt to do the same and get the very most out of it.
Take a look at this: http://benchmarkextreme.com/Articles...01100T/P6.html
44-> 52 FPS on an x6 overclocked from 3.3 -> 4.2 GHz with 570 tri-sli on 2560x1600.
Clearly the x6 is holding the system back in this case. Now ramp that resolution up a notch, throw in 580s instead - SB will DUMP on the x6. Hardly a performance difference he wouldn't notice. Case closed.Edited by Iceman23 - 4/22/11 at 1:06pm
