Why Is It That Some Game Require The Dreadful Steam - Page 15

The point is you shouldn't. With a retail copy, a valid key and an internet connection, you should be able to reinstall any game at will.

For those of you who sit at home and don't like to go out, love steam all you want. I prefer a retail experience and physical purchases myself.
That would be purely irresponsible. What's stopping me from posting a CD key online for COD and everyone who sees it has a free copy, safe and "legal". EVERY similar service works the same way. It would be stupid not to.

And "if you happen to have your account info right there", really, you can't just use a password and username you can remember? They're not asking you to recite pi to 500 within 2 minutes. Honestly, this is your fault, not Steam's.

Another thing.. steam updates for you. I remember reading a article somewhere where many companies are angry at steam for taking all their customers cuz they sell good deals as retail stores do lol. They can't do nothing about it cuz Steam is a very powerful company right now lol.

Dugh...."a" key with "a" disk. Not "any" key with "any" disk....
I have yet to download a game. I've got a fast connection, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay for nothing.

I'm sorry, man. To me, using Steam is the equivelant of using gamespy to find online matches.

But, no. Steam/Valve somehow convince developers to bundle their crappy service and make it mandatory for using a game. Let's take a newer release for example. COD BlackOps.

WHEN PURCHASING A RETAIL GAME
COD4MW was exactly how a game should be released. If you want to play it on Steam, you had the option to do so. If you wanted to play without Steam, this was also a choice... Functioned flawlessly. I still enjoy playing quite a bit.
BlackOps on the other hand, requires a steam account just to install or play. Requiring an internet connection is bad enough. Game manufacturers have no business telling the consumer of the product what they should or should not have in order to utilize retail purchases. But, this is fairly common practice, I'm told it's due to piracy issues and such.
Requiring a steam account to install or play is such a load of B.S.
When I make a retail purchase, I own what I buy, and I should be able to upgrade my system at will and reinstall software at will. I should be able to choose participation in 3rd party utilities.
Steam, (the third party utility),will not allow you to reinstall retail software that YOU the consumer have purchased. If you install a game once, that key is shot, forever. Please don't try to do a fresh install of BlackOps on a new hard drive. You cannot. You get a message saying "this key has already been registered to an account".
So, now, I just return any game that requires steam participation....(BlackOps being the exception..{as it was a gift from my kids})....because of steams B.S. They manage to ruin every gaming experience they get involved in. As a third party software developer, I have no use for them at all. Apparently, I'm not the only one who feels this way.
So, boycott them. Boycott game developers that get into bed with them. Send a message to future developers...."Steam B.S. will not be tolerrated!!!"

On a personal note, I have hated steam since madatory participation was required on my copy of Halflife2, and they told me my key was bad...(which it wasn't). I was instructed by some Steam sap that in order to register the game, I had to take a digital macro photo of my key, email it to them, and then they would review whether or not to register the game. I told 'em where to go, what to do when they got there, and what they could suck along the way. (Still holds true to this day).
Yup it is bs. Perfectly explained. Hate being pushed to use an app like steam. Truthfully I hope steam burns to the ground when internet restrictions arrive . Maybe game developers will avoid steam fingers twisted. Hope developers avoid steam period, I would much rather run PB services vs -->big plumper of an app box<-- to play my game.

Still, I don't see why you can't just remember a simple account name and password. It's not that hard, even if you never use it.

And why do you call it "nothing"? Because it's digital?

Firstly, you're not paying for "nothing". The notion that if you purchase a retail copy you own the game is actually quite false. You have purchased a license to play their game. The game's creators are the only owners of said game. So in essence, purchasing the license online and downloading is the exact same thing. The concept of ownership actually does not exist in the manner you assume it does.

Second, it is in no way similar to game spy as far as finding games goes. Using YOUR example, Black Ops has it's own server browser. As does BC2 for that matter.

Yeah. No pretty box. No media. No case. No guide. But, that's fine if that's what YOUwant. I simply don't want to particiapte in steam. O.K? I shouldn't have to, especially for something purchased retail. Look, P.C. games aren't going away. #1. Console contollers suck. #2. REAL enthusiasts use p.c. not only because of the better controls, but the constant upgradability. The p.c. gaming industry will contiue on with or without steam (hopefully without....I liked that "burning down the building" quote above .
Just saying it should NOT be mandatory. That is all.

Really.
I love you, man.

O.k. I've purchased several second hand licenses on this and other websights for FPS at about maybe 10% of their original price.....Farcry2, Crysis, UT3, etc. Was able to install everyone without steam's consent...

Try doing that with a mandatory steam game. Look, we can do this all day long. They still gonna suck b@lls at the end of the day.... Gaming without steam. It can be done.
