This.

REAL enthusiasts use p.c. not only because of the better controls, but the constant upgradability. The p.c. gaming industry will contiue on with or without steam (hopefully without....I liked that "burning down the building" quote above .
Just saying it should NOT be mandatory. That is all.

Really.
I love you, man.
You can get the guide (on your PC) through Steam, for the record, but I doubt that's what you're after.

But, you're saying that, because it's digital, it's nothing? Well, give or take 95% of my money is digital. I would like to assume that that's actually real. Plus, even if you're buying a game in a store, you're not buying the game. You're buying a license to play the game. Buying a game implies you own that game, and can do everything you want with it, which is not true. You're getting the same thing with or without Steam.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing you should use Steam. Your other arguments are valid enough, seeing as they're mostly opinions, and honestly, if you would only ever use Steam for one game, you're better off without it (although if you do decide to go further into Steam, you'll notice a lot of advantages).

Yeah, I'm just saying that I can buy used for really cheap, or go to Walmart, about 2 min from here. What is the benefit to me? There isn't one. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. They refused to activate a game I purchased retail, so I took it back, and vowed never to participate in their crap. I don't see anything wrong with digital content per se, hell, I got netflix like anyone else.
But,
Netflix didn't tell me I had to install and participate in their service in order to watch the last DVD I purchased.
That is the difference. We starting to understand, here?

Steams fine stop hatin'

Unless you have dial up I suppose.. O_o

I bought a retail copy of Metro 2033 off of amazon and installed it. Steam recognized it and integrated it just fine. Very smooth.

I dont buy games that are 59.99 when they are released, I just wait a few months then buy them discounted.
Hey dude, i found Metro 2033 at target on one of the end stacks for i believe 12 dollars, and prototype for like 8, and a few other good games really cheap at target. And i have a decent internet but when i get a game, i generally want to play it soon, not wait 1-2 hours for it to download then another 20 to install, then another 10 to get it configured right. I like to put in the disk, install in 25 minutes, take 10 to configure, and then run off and frag some dudes. But I also Throughly Dislike Steam.

Clearly the only solution is to buy the game, to sooth your aching conscience, and then pirate it so that you can actual get the product you paid for.

Disclaimer: Piracy is VERY naughty . Every time you pirate a piece of software bill gates personally bites the head off a kitten.

IMO there isn't much of a time difference. If I want to buy a physical copy it will take me 15min minimum to get to the store. 10min to get out of there and another 15 to get home. That's 40min. Installing it is another 20min. That's an hour. Then if there are patches . . . If I get it on steam it would be almost done downloading, and I wouldn't have to waste gas . . . or pay sales tax.

haha, I avoid wal-mart like you avoid Steam.

And I wasn't telling you that you HAD to use Steam to game, I was simply pointing out a few problems I had with your argument. Until MW2, I never used Steam myself. MW2 was the first game I had to install with Steam, but I went at it with an open mind.

I don't blame you... there's always an old person bound and determined to harass every person upon entrance. I never did get MW2, I wasn't aware it was steam cursed. Oh well, just another title to avoid. That's too bad, as I was looking forward to getting it in the future. My posts are my reasons for avoiding steam. I know there are others here that have had similar experiences. If steam works for you, then great. I just happen to find it a huge p.i.t.a., and don't see any benefit or reason for it's existance, other than to annoy.
