Just an FYI, on my UD4 with a 2600k, IBT will pass all day, and I'll get BSODs in prime95 small FTTs (usually pretty quickly) if there isn't enough vcore.

yeah. maybe i'll run that just to make sure. if it could boot at 5.2ghz and run SuperPi 1m 7.2sec, then it think i can get it stable at 5ghz

look at the load temps here

excellent job gentlemen good to see everything is working out. That prime95 thing is weird. The thing is Sandybridge if you haven't noticed is pretty much stable enough to do every bench if you can boot to windows.

I wrote the sandybridge OC guide so you guys wouldn't need me to do this for you. but sometimes you just need to be reminded about what you need to do. I am glad to see I was able to help you guys with everything. This thread 3 people nice OCs all from 4.5 upto around 5 or over 5ghz, excellent job gentlemen.

The Gigabyte boards are very powerful you just need to know how to use them. Luckily for you guys gigabyte gave me all the equipment so that i could get a hold of things, and believe me i have had months or two of headaches and that is why I can help you guys.

If anyone else needs help just ask, follow the things said in this thread, read it all, or just read my OC guide. Especially read the things to do if you can't oc further, as everything said here has been said in my OC guide in my sig.

Alright so I've been trying to get my cpu stable at 5.0 for the last 30 minutes to no avail. The longest I got was a full test off intel burn test at medium and when I tried high it bsod. This was at 1.53V too. Im starting to get sad again.

Yeah LLC is enabled. This is the best I got so far. I guess I'll just focus on getting the volts down at a x49 multi. Also keep in mind that the ram is not at 1600 yet. But still I'm pretty sad that it can't hit the coveted 5.0ghz frown.gif

I'm beginning to settle with the idea that 47 or 48 is going to be my 24/7 overclock. The whole point of this exercise for me was to get more power for rendering without having to use watercooling (which is noiser than air, at least the way I had it setup).

The I7-2600K is a phenomenal chip, 25% more speed than my I7-920 @ 4.3, and nearly 50% more efficient*. I get the same to lower temps on a $50 air cooler and a single fan than I did with a noisy MCP355 pump and 3 gentletyphoons on a 3x120 rad.

I think the Sandy Bridge should be featured on the next Modern Marvels on TV. :-)

* Under 100% rendering load on my I7-920 @ 4.3, HWMonitor reported 152W processor power, The I7-2600K shows 98W at peak when running at 4.8 1.4V load.

Even weirder is that Prime95 appears to put a much larger load on this platform.

For example, when running IBT, HWMonitor shows 98W processor power and max temp on any core is 67 or 68.

When running Prime95 in the same session, HWMontitor shows 110W and 72 max temp.

It used to be the exact opposite on the LGA1366 platform.

I wonder if the ASUS or MSI folks are seeing this pheomenon as well.

Ok well, if you can run superpi and get errors with IBT? Try this, its a long shot, but clock your RAM to whatever it should be, and increase the qpi/vtt voltage. You can also try another BIOS. You can also try to increase CPU PLL, when i was testing I swear to god CPU PLL helped me out a bit, but i thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me. You can also try to disable all the un-needed peripherals, you can always try to use 1.55v do you benchmarks take a screenshot and then back off for everyday use, that is what sooo many people do. I don't OC at all for everyday use.

That is very weird about prime95, i just used IBT as it was more stressful. Mabye you aren't setting all threads? are you? is memory set to maximum? I think you know what you are doing, its just prime95 has been pushed aside in favor of IBT. but either way you should be stable, if you can run IBT you should be able to run Prime 95 without BDOS, are you sure its not RAm related????
