What a difference 15 watts makes :)

Anyway....I haven't upgraded my rig in almost a year and since the weather has cooled off here in Florida I decided to OC my 965BE 140 Watt power hog back up to its 3.9 mhz threshold...Since Bulldozer is still away's off I decided to splurge on the 970 BE and give the 965 to my son...20 minutes later I boot her up with the same Bios settings except I bumped the multi up one to 20 to hit 4013mhz and it booted right up, I gamed for about an hour...still no crash...took it a step further and ran 2 passes of prime at 1.4375 volts and not one crash and maxed at 47c. I'm a happy guy

Wasn't the first 965 a c2 chip? If so, that'd explain it pretty well. Congrats on the new chip, regardless!

Yeah it was a C2...very sensitive to volts, heat and everything else. I'm just glad to be done with it

I had both 965 c2 and c3. None of them could hit 4ghz stable.
So the 970 must be a great overclocker if you could reach 4ghz with that low voltage!

I didn't even have to work for it, the bios settings and voltages were saved from my 965 cpu running @ 3800Mhz, I just raised the multi and hit F10 booted it out of sheer laziness and it worked well.
