I'd go with the quad core, mainly because it's only $5 more...not counting shipping

On second thought, go for the $1499 variant

Neither, I would go with a Asus G73 with the Crossfire 5870ms. On par with the Alienware, and so much cheaper. Runs cooler too.

For raw power, I'd go for this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ALIENWARE-M17X-R...item4cf4504516

That being said, MSI makes some decent gaming laptops that are cheaper and you won't have to deal with ebay sellers or refurbished items.

MSI GX660R-060US can be found for ~1500 CAD: http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=255

It's lacking a little RAM when compared to the Alienware and it has a single 5870. However, it does have a BD drive and two 320 GB HDDs in RAID 0.

This is also a great option for the price (usually $1100 CAD): http://www.msimobile.com/level3_productpage.aspx?id=215

Single 5770 is more accurate, I think.
