trying folding first time, 3x hd4850x2 wont work

hey folders this is my first try at folding ever, well as the title says i have 3 sapphire hd4850x2 and i have followed this thread http://www.overclock.net/folding-home-guides-tutorials/578934-windows-7-multigpu-guide.html
to the T. i have win 7 pro x64, i have done a seperate f@h-gpu folder for each of the six cores and when i start the first instance of fah for gpu 0 i do the setup and set the machine id. then it says it has a download error. cant get past that unless i put it on run as administrator. then when i do that it downloads the fahcore_11 then it says working 0,0 for a second then has a message that fah ran into a serious issue running the core and is shutting down. everytime i restart the instance it continue to shut down in error. i have also read to try running in compatability mode, so i tryed xp sp3 to no avail. im about to give up on folding but it seems to be a waste of gpu power not to try this. thanks skunk

1) Try rightclicking the client and running as admin.
2) OC'd at all?
3) What drivers are you using?

Set your CPU to folding@home and then use those ATI cards for BOINC (similar to folding@home). ATI GPUs do much better with BOINC, and your 4850's are perfect smile.gif

Also, there is a BOINC event coming up (check my sig) that could use your help, with prizes too smile.gif

Wouldn't bionic be better for this? Folding is better for Nvidia cards. I remember that someone posted that they folded on two 5850's and it was equal to one 9800 GTX
EDIT: I mean FOLDING@HOME is better with Nvidia GPUS

Might be way off, but I had issues with my antivirus removing the core when it was downloaded maybe check to see if your antivirus is doing something to the core.

thanks for the replies guys. to answer the questions : i have tried running as admin, and also in compatability mode with admin. no the cards are not overclocked, underclocked actually for heat reduction, cat 10.11. as i tried cat 10.12 and couldnt get it to work on 11 monitors. also what is this boinc you speak of??? i had always heard of folding but never boinc please explain. (also is it for a good cause also?? if it will work on my system i will join the event just give me some info. also i will have to check the antivirus, but anticipating AV issues i already excluded all the folding folders and .exe prior to even trying the first time so im not sure if thats it.
let me know guys cuz even if i get folding going to compair the performance of other systems im curious.

oh edit also how do i register for being on overclock.net team??

BOINC is a collection of DC projects, similar to Folding@home, but with a wider range of goals. Since ATi performs quite a bit worse that nVidia for Folding@home (for now), many feel it's more worthwhile to BOINC on their GPUs instead. OCN's BOINC team can be found here:
http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-boinc-team/

As for registering for the OCN Folding team, as long as you enter 37726 as your team number, your points will be for OCN. smile.gif

To try and solve your problem, remove the clients you've installed, and use this:
http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-folding-home-team/739408-fah-gpu-tracker-v2.html

It's a client manager, which will download and configure all the clients for you, and should hopefully get you sorted, if you do decide to go with Folding@home. thumb.gif
