Ok last night when i was at work someone had this computerhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883147068 sitting next too the garbage can and said i can take it.

But its missing a few parts well main parts lol ram which had 8gb of dd3.. and the 1tb hdd.. And he said the motherboard is probably fried, But today i tried the 910 x4 cpu in my main desktop in sig and all it does is turn on and off just like the hp did which i thought it was doing it because it was missing the ram, So its gonna need a new cpu too.

So i put this list together for it.

Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231253

Cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103824 was thinking of just going duel core but not really sure.

HDDs 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136514

And i would probably like too run raid 1 even tho i would ony get 2tbs of free space but i can always add more hdds later down the road.

But heres the main question how would i go by configuring it in raid 1, Cause i cant find anything about this pc for raid. Or will i need a raid card?

But other than that i think this computer is worth buying the cpu and ram for it sense it would ony cost 140$ and should be a nice server.

If it didn't even beep at you I'd probably say the motherboard is iffy too.
If you don't have RAM installed you'll get a beep code from the PC speaker.

this.

Take EVERYTHING out of the mobo, plug in just the power cables and power on. If you don't get the codes to complain about missing cpu then the mobo is dead.

Raid 1 is very easy to set up. If your motherboard has on board Raid then you are fine. If you think that you will eat that free space and will run out of SATA ports then you should consider getting a Raid controller. Dell PERC cards are considerably cheaper than other controller cards and are easy to use. PERC's are SAS ports so you can get SAS to 4x SATA connectors. This means that every SAS port on your card can control 4 SATA hard drives.

Ya it could also be the board, but my computer didint even beep when the dead cpu was in it.it just did the same thing the hp did which makes me think the board is fine. I also dont see a mb speaker on the hp either. But i will just try too boot it with out the cpu and also the gpu too see what it does, but like i said i dont see a pc mb speaker...

Does anyone know if i could just try a 125watt cpu in a 95watt mb just too see if it boots? Cause i could just buy some cheep ram for it so i wont loose much if it is the mb.

Than if it boots i just buy everything else and proceed makeing it a storage server.

But ya the place were i work at which i do cleaning really dont know anything about computers lol sense they gave alot of computers and laptops too me which also said the boards is bad and stuff, but all they needed is a fresh install of windows lol and everyone works whixh i have 2 of them running 24/7:-)

Ya i dont think it has onboard raid. . . Cant find anything about this computer for raid.

But ya i do prefer too have it in raid 1.Right now on my sig rig i have 2x 1tbs in raid 1 for back up and 2x 1tbs in raid 0 but have some of my importen stuff on the raid 1 drives.

So probably will need too get a raid card for it if the board is fine on it.

For a storage server, a cheap dual core is plenty, it really is. Add in 2GB of low end memory and away you go. I've run a full spec server (web server, network management (routing, firewall, DHCP, Domain management) file server plus math crunching to stop it idling the whole time) on a dual P4 with 1GB of memory, it was perfect.

Hmm i probably just get some cheap 2gb of ram for now

But still waiting for a answer about is it ok too try a 125watt cpu in a 95watt supported motherboard at least too see if it boots up.

I also tried the motherboard with out the cpu and the board stayed on instead of going on and off with the dead cpu in, So might be some hope for the mb that its fine hopefully,.. But ya from what i see on the board there is no mb speaker anywhere. but it also turns off when i try too turn it off from the power switch, And when i had some dead boards back than from a bad bios flash i had too always pull the plug out because it wouldn't do anything even from the power button too turn it off.

If i knew everything would work i would just buy everything for it right now cpu ram and the hdds cause it would be worth it. But i could always buy a cheap board if it is bad also and just use the case which is pretty nice.
