Not detecting ram

Thread Starter
Since i upgraded my cpu from a i7 920 to 970, the bios only detects 4 gb of ram instead of 6. could it be my cpu or is it my motherboard? I installed different ram in different slots and everything. nothing wrong with the ram. any ideas?

Your cpu block is too tight, possibly or maybe a bent pin.

With the i7 series its usually a bent pin. In fact that's the what it is in the vast majority of cases from what I've read.

The other option is your ram isn't seated all the way or your ram stick is dead.

Edit: Re-read your post, likely a bent pin when you installed the new CPU.

thanks for the help. im going to check it out tomorrow. id rather it be the motherboard than the actual cpu. i probably did over tighten it when i seated it.
