Headphones + Speakers on Asus Essence ST

Thread Starter
I bought myself an Asus Essence ST and a pair of HD 595s a few months ago as part of my graduation present. I have been absolutely in love with the audio quality and over all listening experience. The only down side is now I can hear the flaws in all of my mp3 music and have been forced to re-rip all my CDs into FLAC (totally worth it).

Any way, I was wondering if there is a way to hook up a set of 2.1 speakers to the sound card along with my cans and just switch off one while using the other.

I was just curious to see if someone who owns/used to own this card knew anything on the subject.

Any constructive input is much appreciated.

well, you plug in the cans to the dedicated headphone plug, and the speakers to the line-in IIRC. Then all you do is open up Xonar Audio Center, click on the triangle to expand the window. And there you can switch output from headphones to speakers and vice versa.

My line in is currently occupied by my mixer, so that won't work... what about if I got an RCA to 3.5mm adapter like this http://www.thecablestation.com/index...4tmsvptia17k90 and plugged that into the rca outputs on my card.

would something like that work?

I thought the Essence came with RCA to mini adapters. I know my D2X did. But yea, use the L and R out and just select headphones or speakers from the ASUS console.

Edit for below: No, not really. Unless you were hooking up some ultra hi-fidelity speakers to them. You can get some gold plated connectors at Parts Express or B&H, but IMO its not worth it. Yea, my D2X came with about a dozen connectors and adapters.

I don't think mine came with that adapter, since I got mine used, but it's like a $5 cable if not....

would there be any loss of quality going through an adapter like that?

I just got my Asus Xonar Essence ST it's still sitting in the box on the desk, I currently have 320 KBPS music and I use Sennheiser 595's also. Is it worth switching to FLAC?

You might want to start a new thread with that question, and Two Cables might be your best person their.

How does the Asus Xonar Essense ST compare to the SupremFX X-FI that is built into the Asus Crosshair IV? I was thinking about going the simulated surround route via software with the Logitech G930's. However, I am thinking about getting the 595's or the 600's.
