Am I dumb for purchasing the 955 BE?

Thread Starter
I know that the new chips will be out soon, and I just purchased the 955 BE a few weeks ago. I'm happy with it, and I was on a $300 budget for the board, memory and CPU, but I can't help but feel sick about this one.

How much did you pay for it?

I say no.. Its a great chip, and once the new stuff comes out you could get an x6 and some more ram, an SSD and a new video card and be set for awhile.

Not really since most programs don't even use 6 cores or even 4 cores. There mostly using dual cores.

Are you happy with your purchase overall? Sometimes it is all relative to what you expect and want out of the components. In my opinion, waiting it out wouldve been better probably, but if it gets what you need done, then I guess it's fine. I don't really have any insight on how well bulldozer will perfom, but as for now, 3 parts for $300 sounds good to me.

Ya, it performs great. I paid $145 for it. It is worth the money, but I always have buyers remorse when I purchase technology. I hate buying middle of the road, but hey, I'm not rich. Will bulldozer be compatible with the AM3 socket?

Bulldozer is AM3+ which is not compatible with AM3, but AM3 can fit in AM3+ or so they say.

Dont worry bulldozer will not be but it will take a long time for the 955 to show its age.

Bulldozer will be for AM3+ boards from what I've read. And I've been running the same chip solid since february. For gaming, web design, photoshop, HD movies I've never had any regrets. I will be upgrading to bulldozer but mostly because I'm addicted to new hardware.. As I type this I have the egg open looking at those beautiful new 1155 chips lolol

Nah you're not stupid for purchasing the 955. Hell, I went from a 955 to the Xeon X3440 (i7 860 equivalent) and there's no performance difference in most of the activities I do.

I regret going 1156, to be honest. I want to downgrade but would cost too much right way to do so considering I need to buy an AM3 mobo and CPU then try to sell my junk, since I have no back up.

Keep the 955 until you actually need something faster.

That's a great chip. I had a 945 and the only reason I went to my i7 is for rendering. If you are happy with your purchase, I wouldn't feel bad at all.
