5770, 460, 6850 or 6870 in mATX/HTPC case?

Hi,

Just a very quick question:

I currently have a 5770 vapor-x in my HTPC (well I use it a lot for gaming too) but for some odd reason even games like FIFA are stuttering a bit. It was running fine on my desktop (GTX470, also a 3-core just like in my HTPC and same amount of ram).

And since I want to play some more demanding games anyway, I wanted to ask which card I should get to replace it. I have a 500w OCZ PSU, it should be sufficient for either the 460, 6850 or 6870. The 460 seems to be the best price/performance card out of those 3 but it's HOT. I would like to stay with nVidia (a lot less problems since I switched from a 5850 to a 470) but for power/temperature sake I would be okay with not getting an nVidia card. My case allows for 10.5" cards to be installed, so even the 6870 should fit.

Noise isn't really an issue, even if you can hear it a bit, it's fine. But so far, the only indication that the HTPC is running, is that the lights are flashing. It's just plain silent.

Budget is also not really an issue but I don't want to spend more than I have to (of course).

Thanks for any help, I want to order within the next few hours so that I get it by Friday

I would go with the 460 because I'm a die-hard nVidia fanboy However, the 6870 was very tempting at the time of my sig-rig purchase. However, without the CUDA support, I would never go radeon/amd.
Folding, you see, is the way to go.
Therefore, if you do not want/need CUDA, then go with the 6870.

Stuttering is caused by the CPU bottnecks. What CPU you running in it? a newer GPU wont give any more FPS and fix stuttering unless the CPU is fast enough

GTX460, they run cool as. Mine hits 65c max in GTA4 with 68% Fan speed..

The Gainward 460 is Shorter than my Old 5750.. and OC's really nice

AMD X3 445 3.1 Ghz. It's slightly lower clocked than my desktop (400 mhz or so, but I can play any other game maxed out without any problems). But the stuttering is also odd, it goes smooth for a while and then in a certain situation it seems to go in slow motion and it seems like it skips some frames. It's not "too bad" but it's just annoying.

@max it: Yeah, I don't need CUDA support in my living room I still have a 470 if I ever need it

6870 should run fine on that psu. It has low power consumption.

There are plenty of options for $220 after rebate.

The 6870 is a good card, but you'll need to overclock to see improvments on the CPU

I probably will, temperatures are looking very nice with a stock cooler @ stock speeds.
