Gaming PC for around $1000

Thread Starter
In about a weeks time I will need to order parts and build a new PC for my girl. She will use it for school too but I guess I should just say gaming as that will probably be the most demanding thing it does.

Haven't really been following PC parts since I build PC so I was wondering what you guys would suggest with a budget of around 1k.

I posted here b/c when I build my PC Intel was hands down better. Not sure if that's still the case but I'm assuming it is.

Video cards are also confusing me. On Newegg it looks like 5870's are selling for the same price as 6870's. What's that all about?

Hey man,

Have a look at this thread:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...er-1500-a.html

This is a $1500 build, however, in your case, you can swap around.

Like the video card, you can go with a 470 for $250, or a 6870 for $250 as well.

Also, that sample build is including a $200 monitor, with a few tweaks you can definitely build. By going with a 470, no monitor if your girl has one, that build is already at $1200, get a cheaper cooler, etc.

Feel free to post there, and I'll be happy to help you out.

That's all about AMD's cutesy little model-numbering system. The 5870 is actually a better card than the 6870 (foregoing any kind of CrossFireX configuration).
