effeciency is always a factor. but again ill take any chip so long as it's faster then the other.

GTX 295 or a 5850? ill take the GTX 295. it's faster.

not tricked.
Ill laughing when the game does not support SLi and my performance is almost double

To op . You can get a after market cooler for that cpu, My buddy with no ocerclocking skills. got it to 4 ghz ez. e8400 @ 4 ghz. and a 9800+ it played nice and good. his wife took it devorce, IF you are goint to update pc. Intels sb 2500k is 179 @ micro center + a mobo @ 139. = Just over $300 still need ram but that 50-100 dollars on how much u get 4 gb or 8 gb.

New sandybridge are faster clock to clock to i7 1366. and @ my overclocks. the sb is 200 watts lower to run, So yes your OLD cpu is slower now, its still fast dont get me wrong But @ overclock come on . sb is the new e8400 overclocking kings. And its cheap. My i7 rig is ..... alot more then that sb pcs

hell get what ever u can afford. even core 2 quad's.

Dont pull this bs on 'it's newer' stuff.

It's performance is ALL that matter's.

Victor's must speak the way the world should be. not the way it is

my core 2 quad Q9400 had 3X 9800GT+'s on it. and it can handle 3X GTX 280's.

my core i7 doesnt handle those much better.

Non-sense. the GTX is HOTTER, more expensive and less power efficient. Its SOMETIMES faster. Hell, I could add another 5850 and get much more efficiency, power wise and performance also.I would need an extra PSU to quad that 295.

Thats why you got 2 6870s

and thats why Im going to get a 2500K, not a QX9650 lets say.

@Tattoo
The motherboard limits the FSB to 400 for some reason, I dont have a unlocked multiplier.
Best I can get is 3.2ghz, and is very unstable to the point it wont even bootup.
Yeah, im thinking about SB

Nearly all e8400 can be *easily* OC'd to 3.8GHz, and at this speed, you will rarely have any significant bottlenecking when actually gaming at the higher resolutions/AA levels that the 5850 is capable of running. There's a couple games out there that really love quads like BFBC2, but aside from these very rare situations, a well-OC'd e8400 is still a totally competent gaming chip esp. for a single gpu solution that isn't brand-new & top o' the line.

IOW, I wouldn't base my processor upgrade decisions on the results of a 4 year old test run at 1280x1024 w/1xAA, because that isn't the settings you're going to be running on that card. Try comparing results on the 'High' setting w/people with the same GFX card and a Sandy Bridge ... and there'll probably be like 200 points difference on the GPU test.
Yeah, I've heard about the thing about, higher resolution, less CPU bond will be the application, however, the bottlenecking here is just ridiculous. Its not even funny.

Same VGA(5850), Almost same clocks, 940/964-1200/1200
Q8400@3.0Ghz

2400k@4.2ghz

See?

OK.
Which one of these would be cool enough to get rid off any bottleneck on my system?
i7 920
i5 760
PII 965/970
