Who has their phone overclocked?

Thread Starter
I downloaded SetCPU last night, but, i'm slightly disappointed by the lack of freedom. I managed to boost my CPU speed from 1.0ghz to 1.152ghz, but there was no option to reduce the minimum clock to lower than 245mhz or change voltages at all.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Am I able to change voltage or increase clocks further?

You can only lower a clock so much before your phone stops being able to do anything. The biggest part of setcpu for me is being able to force my phone to 245 while its sleeping, you have no idea as to how much battery life it saves.

I was under the impression that the stock ROM and modded ones downclocked the CPU to 245mhz anyway, so what advantage is there? Does the phone sometimes just up to 1ghz (or 1.152ghz) in my case when asleep?

I thought that 1.2ghz was possible with SetCPU... as was voltage control?
Voltage control is entirely based off of the kernel, same with maximum and minimum speeds. What phone do you have?

I just flash a kernel over so I don't gotta worry about SetCPU... never worked for my correctly anyways.

The 245MHz clock is for when its locked/black screen/sleep. Battery life saver ftw

Yea, but I thought the stock ROMs (for Desire at least) downclocked to 245mhz automatically?

Go to website called XDA Developers, you will find custom ROM's and Kernels for your phone that will allow you to underclock, undervolt, overvolt and overclock.

The highest clock I got my HTC Desire to was 1.3GHz

Depends on what the kernel its using. I have no knowledge of the Desire, but with my Incredible... when I was stock 2.2 OTA, it WILL downclock to 245MHz but won't stay, so if there is a background process ex: Pandora, and it had increased CPU load, it would shoot to 1.0Ghz...

but with a flashed kernel, no matter what when its locked/black screen/sleep, its forcing it to stay at 245Mhz until unlocked

I have the exact same phone and ROM in that case. Setcpu is useful for battery savings, make sure you set up profiles since those are the biggest use for setcpu. You want your sleep clocks to be set at your minimum clock since it'll save battery and it doesn't matter how fast your phone is running while getting texts, emails and syncing in your pocket.
