My first build, what do you guys think?

Hey guys, I'm a new member to the forums but been a lurker for a few months finally decided to join. I started with a 500$ dollar budget a month ago but some how after reading and learning about this high end rigs while patiently waiting SB processors my budget is now 1000$(is crazy how that happens ).

Im planning on using this build for heavy multitasking, HD content, College work and some light video editing. I think this computer is going to a little of an overkill for me, but you guys think is a good setup for my budget?

I want to make sure none of this will bottleneck or anything crazy like that.

Thanks in advance!

ok,

Well it's a nice start, I wouldn't touch that memory with a herpes ridden rod. Also, you'd be better off with some samsung F3's, the 1tb drives are even better.

Take a look at, Corsair XMS3 or GSkill Ripjaws for memory. The rest looks fine

Get a Caviar Black instead of that Blue. Definitely worth the marginal price difference.

I have the Samsung F3's 1TB, running RAID 0, loving it. Microcenter had them for $60 for the 1TB. Which phantom color are you getting? I love the case I have the white one. Looks good though especially if you consider what other considerations you should do.

the blacks aren't as good as the F3's. Also you have to enable the TLER on them.

Its Great, BUT it has a few problems:

1) 500GB Hard Drives? NO!! You should get a 1Tb and do RAID 0 with another 1Tb Hard Drive,
2) Memory Overkill dude!! 8GB of DDr3 1600MHz Memory??? You should have gotten 4GB that would have been enough.

Dude

He has 4Gb of memory in 2x2Gb strips

8Gb isn't overkill either way, just depends what you're using it for. I have 6GB which I frequently use with VM's and I have a server at work that utilises 128Gb. It just depends what you're using it for, however for a standard gaming rig, 4Gb should be sufficent.

Firstly, he said 4GB, not 8GB.
Secondly, how do you know it's overkill? I agree that having more memory than you use is a bad thing, not a good thing, but you don't know what is enough. But he did say "heavy multitasking," and "video editing." Just because you don't need 8GB doesn't mean he doesn't as well.

Get either of those two PSUs:

They're as good as the Corsair HX650 and a lot less expensive. The XFX unit offers more modularity than the Antec, so if modularity was a selling point for you, then you have a winner.

That said, you don't need a 650W unit for that system. 400W would be perfect.

I think 2Tb of storage will be a overkill for me, this 1Tb of storage should be more than plenty.

Im still new at all this, everything I know is from the little research ive done. see if yall can help me understand a little better. wouldn't a SATA3 (6.0gbs) be better than the SATA2 (3.0gbs) setup?

Im glad you said the watts i needed, because i had no idea. I was going by the setup of other rigs close to mine.

Any suggestions of lower watts psu,or should i just stick with 650w?
