[TPU] Bulldozer 50% Faster than Core i7 and Phenom II - Page 4

Thats fine, it's stupid to only consider on manufacturer, and thats why the best costs the most.

EDIT: 1000 posts. hurrah. what a wise way to spend my time.
We the power user are only a tiny percentage of the market. Like the quote you've sigged, AMD wants to sell competitive chips for less money for MMOOOAAARRR market share.

Congrats on the 1000th post

I don't consider myself a power user because i don't do serious pirating... er sorry i meant ENCODING! LOL

Seriously, i don't and wouldn't buy the top of the range cpu, just because it's stupid to pay 3x the amount for something thats 10% (invented, don't even bother) faster, that will be surpassed in 1 year. But there are many people who will, and not just in our community, and those people don't care if it's AMD or Intel, just at look how many people buy macs and actually think they have "mac" cpu's inside, that its somehow different hardware, because macs are the best, innit!

If BD is 50% faster than i7 and Phenom II I suppose that will make it faster than SB. And AMD's style is to offer good value for money so I'd imagine very competitive prices which is great for us the consumers.
What happened to the i7 1366 "enthusiast" brigade? They're all very quiet since SB has taken top spot.

I love how Macs are now using PC parts, Intel CPUs and ATI/AMD GPUs. It's a PC in a Mac case!
My next upgrade will probably be Haswell or Rockwell. I like to keep my stuff for more than 6 months.
My last system was (try not to laugh) AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Nvidia Geforce 7600GS AGP!

It's likely that they'll outperform first gen i7s.

Anyways, I'm getting one of the 2nd gen (when they've already improved the core, more or less April '12). Until then, the X6 still has got some necks to rip off

I had a PowerMac G3 back in 1997 that used an ATI GPU, drives and memory have been interchangeable since about then as well so it's nothing new to see the same parts on either side. I wonder if our friends over at Apple would consider an AMD based Mac someday, could help them drop their prices a notch or two.

As for waiting to upgrade, I want to see some real world performance numbers before I spend anything on a new system.

1. Apple is not our friends.
2. They do not want to lower their prices.

On topic: I was going to order a new pc for a friend next week and this thread made me really unsure if I should go SB or wait for BD (I assume they won't come till like april though, if thats the case then I'll just be ordering an i5 2500k)

so $300 for the 2500k or wait for BD? I really doubt they'll be released anytime soon and my friend doesn't really want to wait with his 4 year old pc.

It does sound promising, but color me skeptical... of everything any corporate type says. I trust them about as much as I do politicians, and I'm almost an anarchist (libertarian-right).

However, since my current CPU (Athlon X2 640), wimpy though it is, is adequate for what I'm doing (websurfing, office apps, TV/movies, games), I can afford to be patient and wait 'til Bulldozer is out, and then I'll be able to compare with Sandy Bridge based on actual tests and make my decision.

Around June 2011, and yeah, that's a long wait if your stuff is obsolete. In that situation, I'd get a 2500k without hesitation, since that's awesome for the price. I'm waiting because my PC is good enough for now, and being a mild AMD partisan, I'd prefer to stay with AMD if theirs are competitive. But if they aren't, I will switch. Brand loyalty is one thing, cost-effective performance is another.

Thanks, I suspected they'd come a little late.

I'm an AMD fan myself (no, not the stock cooler ones) but as this build is for a friend I will obviously take what gives him the best performance/price as of now, I believe the 2500k will be a large pure performance increase in gaming compared to the 1090t.
