[TPU] Bulldozer 50% Faster than Core i7 and Phenom II - Page 9

maybe the guy that the guy before you was responding to mean that the 4 extra threads created by turning hyperthreading on are like 2 real cores of performance=6cores? 50% of the 4 virtual threads?

Either way, i hope BD ends up being a lot faster than my i7... and at a good price.

I'm not so sure about this... the general "feel" i am getting off of speculation for bulldozer is that 1 module will most likely trade blows with 1 hyper threaded intel core. IF this turns out to be true, i could see a 6 core (3 module) chip pulling ahead of a 2500k (clock for clock) both in single threaded performance & multi-threaded. Single threaded performance I could see getting a huge boost due to the 2mb L2 cache that an integer core will have access to and multi-threaded due to the extra module.

Time will only tell though. Come on benchmarks!

not impressed

8/6 = 1.333

so 33% of that gain is likely from core increases. The next 16% is likely from clock speed and architectural improvements.

that said, this is fully loaded performance in all likelihood. Core components are shared. 5-10% increase in clock speed + 5-30% increase in single threaded performance = NICE.

we shall see. I'm expecting around a 20% increase in real world performance, just enough to place AMD... where it was a few months ago relative to the i7 980x except this time against harsher competition.

I'm not too fused where the performance increase comes from - at the end of the day, if it performs 50% faster then an Intel chip of the same price, then I'll buy it

I doubt Intel would allow that.

Being the big guy with all the money, they'll simply lower their prices, put enough pressure on AMD till a comparable product has no more than 5% - 10% advantage.

They've been allowing it for years. AMD has always offered a budget alternative that provides similar performance to the closest priced Intel setup.

Remember, it isn't just the Intel CPUs that cost more, the mobos also cost more.

AMD and Intel signed a contract which limits Intel's business practices and punishes them severely if they behave in a manner other than specified.

Even if Intel did lower prices though, I (as a consumer) would still win.
