The list looks formidable.

I have the UD7 en route, so I hope that it serves well.

Which PSU are you getting?

Also, "Semper Fi".... at which Camp on Okinawa are you stationed?

It may not be the best but it is 2ms response and still HD and 23" for like half the price.
He's getting an IPS panel, which is more expensive but superior to a TN panel like the one you linked.
post #14 of 22
OHHHH gotcha, should have paid more attention

Even then, they may be good monitors but the response time for a gamer could hurt a little more than the 2ms TN panels. To each his own tho

IPS = Color accuracy for photo editing and web design, color accuracy for games, sharper images, better clarity, better viewing angles for movies 178° vertical 178° horizontal instead of the crappy 160° vertical & horizontal.

It's not necessarily needed but it would be nice to have. I use IPS, it is nice that I get correct color accuracy in Hotmail so I know which e-mail I have read and didn't read yet. Great when I use Photoshop, and good when I'm watching a movie with 2 other people. Most monitors can't adjust black levels and sharpness but I can adjust it with mine. It is useful though when playing games of lower resolutions I can bump up the sharpness so everything is not so blurry. But if you don't use the features of it then it can become quite a waste of money but it doesn't matter anyways. IPS monitors are coming down in price. Next biggest thing is OLED + 120Hz, still waiting for it .

@Syrillian Im at Kadena, but am deployed to Al Udeid right now.

@everyone else
I am thinking of Dell or HP as they make the best IPS monitor that I know about. If their are better ones then they are not on my radar. I could wait for the IPS LED back-lit LG monitors but am not sure when they will release. I could go for Apple Cinema Display's but $999 is too much for a monitor.

128GB will be fine for what I need. If I end up needing more I would get a second and do Raid 0.

what does everyone else think about taking my 1 5870 selling it and going with 2 580's in SLI?

I have certainly thought about it for the performance gain in Nvidia favored games but not sure if it is worth the price.

Most games do not take advantage of the PhysX hardware acceleration and will use the PhysX system software. There's only like 3-4 games that actually utilizes the hardware for PhysX hardware acceleration. Those are like Cell Factor, Metro 2033 and Arkham Asylum I believe. If you're specifically after PhysX hardware accelerated games there aren't very many and the advantage is slim. The games that don't support PhysX hardware acceleration will not take advantage of the hardware so benefits aren't that great. I wish they'd remove the proprietary crap and games would be a lot better. Not this TWIMTBP crap favoring one hardware over another optimizing game performance for only one hardware set. It kills freedom of choice of hardware, you're forced to choose sides. Why choose sides? We're all gamers here.
