N680SLI-DQ6
Q9650
4gb geil ram

Are the above components worth picking up for £200 off someone at work?

I know the processor is decent just unsure on the gigabyte motherboard (geil ram's just generic, Dont know any timings or speed)

Cheers

Ram is poop, processor is good. Board is poop. My friend had 680i chipset, couldn't overclock worth a damn on his Q6600 and it also gave him a lot of problems. He eventually gave up his 680i board and went with an i7 920 X58 upgrade. But your mileage may vary, I wouldn't touch the board for overclocking.

The price is not bad considering a brand new Q9650 is over $300 and Europeans get shafted on PC parts pricing. But I'd check that N680SLI-DQ6 to see if it's a Rev 2 where they got everything ironed out.

Go for it! That processor will blow your mind compared to the one you are running now. And yes for the price you should get it.
