Why is my i7 860 OC different than yours - Page 3

Hyper threading is enabled , turbo is enabled to get 24x multi and 175 bclk = 4.2ghz . You should be able to get 4Ghz at 1.35v from my overclocking experiences with this chip yet i never clocked to 4ghz i just went straight for 4.2 .

i can boot into windows at 4.2ghz using 1.372v and it loads everything but bsod after 10 minutes of gaming due to lack of voltage so i bump it upto 1.392v-1.408v and she runs like a champ completing prime 95 small ftts . If you have any questions about overclocking the i7 8xx pm me and we will figure it out =)

im trying to get my 870 to 4.4ghz but it just wont run stable anything over 4.3ghz =( my temps will allow me to go further but it just wont . 4.3ghz is awsome anyways =)

oh and btw these chips are fine with voltages upto 1.45v daily use aslong as you have good cooling .. not all batches of cpu's are the same also plus i dont know what makes the 860 and the 870 different besides the lower clock speed on the 860 i assume they are pretty much the same thing .. awsome cpu's , i love mine =) hope it all works out for ya man .

1.2+v on a 860 at 4ghz ? doubt it man , thats almost default voltages . I know i could probably hit 4ghz with around 1.3v - 1.34v if im lucky but i wouldnt expect any lower than that not on these cpu's , it might load into windows but not 100% stable no way ..9XX i7 cpu's are different , they can clock upto 4ghz on 1.2+v ..

your using 1.38v for 3.9ghz , im using 1.39v for 4.2Ghz ...Do you have turbo enabled ??? if you enable turbo in ur bios and HT .. disable the rest and go 24x165 = 3.9ghz with say 1.36v that should work for you no problem ... but i see ur cooling is a problem .

Thanks Xristo!

I definitely cannot get a stable 4.0ghz with less than 1.39 vcore. It usually fails LinX in a few seconds and/or I get a BSOD.

How often does Turbo engage?

You are right about cooling being a problem beyond 1.4v. I'm on the fence if it's a problem at 1.4 as I really ONLY play games and in BC2 the temps at 3.9ghz low 50's, so if prime pushes 90.....I will never be pushing these temps really beyond a stability test.

In the end I can't figure out why I need so much more vcore for that 4.0 than most though.

As I'm on a self imposed budget, I will reconfigure some fans in the case tonight. Right now my two intakes are low on the front of the case, and could rearrange so that I have a straight line from intake->cooler 2 fans->exhaust.

thanks guys,

Matt

I just downloaded your mobo manual and I can't see the uncore on there either, that's a pain : /

Will significantly inhibit your ability to overclock, which is a shame.

Also, IMO 90oC is too high, especially for Prime95.

Running IBT/LinX you will be running even higher.

I thought if you could adjust the uncore you'd be able to drop your voltages and solve that, but no luck.

I would back off your overclock a bit, sorry to bring bad news

As a side note, your bluescreens aren't overheats are they?

I don't think 1156 has an uncore voltage.

You're right, that sucks : /

Just read that it's locked.

I now have vastly more respect for everybody on 1156 with high overclocks... lol

I am currently having a ball OC'ing my i7 860, and am trying to get 3.9ghz stable in Prime95 right now.

Only thing I notice is some people on this site have really low Vcore compared to me and are claiming to be stable, but mine is up around 1.37 to 1.38 with temps maxing around 80deg C.

So I guess what I'm asking is it really possible that my chip could require so much more voltage than yours? I also have wall power without a UPS filtering it, and a PSU that maybe near its limit (600w OCZ stealth extreme).

I did also notice though that my IMC voltage is generally lower than others. I tested a bclk of 200 with 1.275 and it was nice and stable.

But what's the deal with Vcore?
dont feel bad, i need 1.39375 vcore(llc disabled) to maintain stability at 4ghz. my chip is definately not golden =[

uncore refers to the qpi/vtt/imc right? if so it does
