need help oc'ing 955

hi,
first question is,

What is HT?
what freq should HyperTransport be running on? same as cpu/nb?
safe voltages for cpu/nb?

currently at 1.45v 3.7 18.5*200.
ht is 2000 mhz according to cpu-z, i set cpu/nb 2200 in bios at 1.2v

looks ok enough? ram is 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 (whatever that means)

i tried 201*18.5 and it crashed..but that was on cpu/nb 2000 and volts on cpu/nb and ht was set to auto.

next step?

any help appreciated.

What speed are you trying to hit on the CPU? If I knew that I could tell you approximately what settings to use for everything.

In general though here is what you should set some things to:

HT: leave it at 2000mhz and stock voltage.
CPU-NB: 2600mhz and ~1.35v seems to be the "sweet spot" for most 955's at ~4.0ghz.
Leave the ram how it is for now until you get the CPU stable.

You are probably experiencing instability because the CPU-NB is too low.

All chips are not created equal, so your voltages may vary a little, but here is what I used for 3.8GHz on my 955.

CPU: 200 x 19 @1.40v
CPU-NB: 2600mhz @1.35v
HT: 2000mhz (stock)
Ram: Stock (you can mess with ram speeds after your CPU is stable)

Make sure to turn off all power saving features in the BIOS as well as all "turbo" or "auto overclocking" features.

Yes put 2600MHZ CPU/NB with 1.35V, it rocks! I would try 20x200 with 1.5V VCORE for 4GHz, if not stable then 1.52V. You have very good cooling so 1.55V is not and issue either. How about vdroop, does your VCORE drop lot when CPU is on load? And how are temps on load? Prime95 blend +6h or IBT 30 runs is good enough when finding the last stable OC.

I would do small fft first for an hour or so, then if it passes that without any errors I would do the blend test for 8-12 hours. If you experience any instability you should bump up the vcore on the CPU to ~1.42v. The NB should be stable at 2600mhz and 1.35v, but like I said before, not all chips are created equal so you might have to raise that as well.

The maximum safe temp for the 955 is 62C, but you have an h70 so that shouldn't be a problem. Good luck with your OC!

Edit: I just saw that your 955 is the C2 version. You might need even more volts to get it stable at 3.8ghz, but I'm not sure seeing as I had the C3 revision.

I just tried ibn maximum, after 2 runs it showed me a

'critical error, please check your overclock'
what is this related to?

cpu/nb is now 2400 at 1.275 or something.

edit : tryed again ibn normal, that error again

Your CPU-NB is still too low for your OC. Try it again at 2600 @1.35v. Also what does CPUz report your CPU voltage to be when it is under full load?
