i7-920 to i5-2500K, worth it? - Page 2

Only way you'd gain anything 'major' is if you're getting less than 99% usage across both gpu's.

Only its it costs you 50$ and no more. All you get is a better overclocking CPU. 2600K is a bit better upgrade. Will you notice the difference? No unless you benchmark and even then its very small. Unless you get the 2500K @ 4.6Ghz+ you will see nothing in games. Even 4Ghz is more then enough for games today.

If your point is to game and just play with something new, I will be the odd-man-out and say GO FOR IT!

I just sold my 1055T, mobo and ram to try Sandy Bridge out. For the very small out of pocket expense, I get the joy of playing with some new architecture and doing some more overclocking.

Your stuff is new enough that you should not have much trouble selling it off.

I do think you might be hoping for too much if you think someone will trade you a SB setup for your 920. Your best bet is to sell and purchase.

I thought the 920 still outperformed the 2500K quite a bit when it came to multi-threaded applications....I guess I need to read some more reviews!

Pretty sure the i5-2500k is faster when clocked high than a i7-920, even in multi-threaded apps.

Well, that`s pretty impressive.

I`m hoping to get full utilization out of my GPUs with a 2500K. Plus, it will give me something to tinker with for the next few weeks or so.

Maybe I`ll start up an appraisal thread and see what people think this stuff is worth.

Thanks again guys!

I'd wait until the successor to X58 comes out later this year.

Personally, I'd wait even longer till Haswell comes out.

Personally the "wait for IB - wait for x - wait for y" argument is really old.

The guy plays games, he doesn't need to wait for x6 or x8 he's already wasting HT as everyone else who games on a i7 is.

All he needs is an x4, with 4 threads, because most of the games out there won't even use all that.
