Word to the wise (ie the person above me) x6 x8 brings nothing to gamers. It's been years since quads came out and most games are STILL dual threaded.

BUT LOOK AT MY VANTAGE SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well unlike you not everyone is a gamer who lives with their mother with zero disposable income.

That assums gaming is the only use for a multi core CPU

Or am I mistaken ?

For gaming the i5 2500K would be pretty nice, I've thought about it but I do lots of CAD/rendering so the lack of HT would be pretty crappy considering I already have mine at 4.4GHz with a much reasonable voltage.

I'll probably get an i7 2600K later on.

I am helping. I'm working to dispel the i7 synthetic benchmarking myth and get down to what matters - real gaming.
No one disputes that the Sandy Bridge is beast man, but for gaming? GPU matter more, especially if you got a chip thats not bottlenecking. Brah.

Can't argue that...

So we're left with the other two remaining points...

Overclocking: OP will enjoy it, took me a bit to figure out how to get prime 95 not to crash the within minutes of starting it at 5GHz, luckily the answer wasn't more voltage.

I'd say in this department +1, OP gains the ability overclock higher than 4GHz, and a new chip to play with.

Price: OP can sell his current rig and easily move into a new i5-2500k setup for just a few bills, nothing really to worry about. Is the cost of that up grade worth it? It was to me, but I came from an x6 chip so it's a bit different in that the performance I was seeking wasn't in Vantage or Multi-threaded apps, but in single threaded performance because as a gamer thats all that really matters once you've got 4 cores.

Why anything other than gaming ever comes up is what really bugs me. HT is worthless in almost every game there is, I'm sure theres one or two that can take advantage of eight threads, I just don't know of them.

Why deny the OP the joy of a higher overclock, and better gaming performance, at a very low cost simply because for other reason you may not feel it's worth it? Hence you get me arguing with 30 people because they can't stay OT and keep going outside the OP's wishes to make their points which are by definition invalid.

You are better off turning HT off and getting the best clocks possible

The only way it even comes close to making sense is if you have a CO

920 DO is a great CPU and is not to be underestimated.

I think you will take a hit in some things and gains in others but both ways up or down it will be minimal

I would save the cash for the forth coming Quad channel 8 core monsters on the horizon

Bah.... I have a C0..

Your still at 4 GHZ so it's no big deal. The CO's tend to need more vcore..they don't perform less clock than the DOs at all.
