Triple Channel Sandy Bridge?

Hey all!

As the title implies... is it expected for release? I haven't seen any boards with 6 RAM slots and am wondering if it's in the works?

Anyone hear of this?

Thanks!

No. The current SB chips only run dual channel. Ivy Bridge next year will offer triple channel and LGA2011 server chips will introduce quad channel.

LGA1356 was supposed to be LGA1366's replacement and was supposed to have triple-channel memory. Now that it has been revealed that the X68 chipset will be on LGA2011, there might not even be an LGA1356 socket. LGA2011 will have quad-channel memory.

That's going to be expensive in the RAM department :|
I hope I can stay clear of this upgrade and stick to a new videocard when I see one I want.

You probably won't need to hop to the new CPUs. CPUs are at a plateau right now. Sure, they're getting more powerful and efficient, but there's no USE in all that power right now. GPUs are different; games are pushing demand on GPUs higher each year.

Depends on what you are doing, video encoding still benefits greatly from greater speed. In terms of mainstream use you are correct, there hasn't been a need for more power in the CPU department for a while.

yep, link below has pics of LGA2011 msi mobo with X68 on tech power up, now reportedly coming in both server and enthusiast platforms, both will have quad core ddr3, and supposedly in last quarter of this year, with 6-8+ cores.
