Phenom II X6 WC System

Thread Starter
Hi, with the release of Sandy bridge Intel processors, the gulf between amd's best chip and SB just got bigger. The only way I can see me keeping my current system is to over clock it to the max! and herein lies the problem. At the moment my H50 is having a hard time cooling the "beast" I often find the temps straying into the mid 50's so any further over clocking will be catastrophic for the current setup.

So, it appears that I have 2 choices.

1. "mod" the H50, I have just bought a case that has room for a 240mm rad. The obvious solution would be to hook the H50 to a larger rad and enjoy the benefit of a larger surface area heat exchanger.

2. Or, do it the proper way, purchase a water block and pump (I already have a reservoir)

So what’s the opinion?

BTW. I am not on a budget per-se but I know that profit margins must be huge on water cooling components, so I do not really want to be spending more than I have to just for aesthetic reasons

Would a 240MM RAD be big enough to contain a GTX570 as well? if I look to WC' ing it in the future.

Edit: Would this Water Block be suitable for an X6?

for reference, I also love my kit like this guy.

I get 43c max load at 4ghz.

44c sometimes when the furnace kicks in.

Hi, thanks for the links but the radiator is too big, my new case can take a max 240mm rad.
I could get a double thickness one if needs be . . .

would the water block I found on the bay of e be any good?

Would it not be cheaper to purchase components separately due to the mark-up on a kit?

I got the RS240. I hit 44 celcius at 1.55v on CPU and 1.475 on CPU/NB. 25c ambient (at 26c ambient, I load at 46. During folding with the GTX 570 @ air, I hit about 48 @ max)

Those setups we linked are probably the cheapest you will get with water cooling, and the rasa block is rated among the top blocks, along with EK supreme HF and the heatkiller.

there is also an RS240 and RX240 kit.
