Other than this, it really seems like a good idea. Especially since every case I look at seems to have way more 5.25" bays than I'd ever find a use for.

Seriously, I see cases with 5+ 5.25" bays. What do people use them for? The most 5.25" bays I can see myself using is 3. I'm currently using 2, as I have a BD-ROM drive, and a DVD burner. I say I can only see myself using 3 because I don't need more than two optical drives, and the only things I can think to add would be a memory card reader or a fan controller, and I don't really need either of those things as I'm fine with my fans running at their default speed, and I use the USB cable for my camera so that I can use the EOS Utility software to easily transfer and organize pictures.

Are there really no big LAN events in Cali? I'm from NJ, and there are quite a few big LANs in my area.

Each of them host 200-man LANs somewhat regularly. The only thing stopping the LAN scene is the fact that most new games don't let you play over a LAN. Which is perfectly fine so long as everyone coming to the events doesn't mind playing older games. Personally, I'm one of those people that has absolutely no problem playing older games. Unreal Tournament 2004 is still my favorite game to play at LAN parties.
